Adam's tattoos absolutely fascinate me, although I am indifferent towards tattoos in general. I like the way his look, the tales they tell, I think they enhance his body, not hide or cover anything; and even though I think they are primarily for himself, they also communicate to us about everything that matters in his life. So far, they've been, very generally speaking, about protection (the eye of horus), communication (infinity symbol), preserving the child within (the skeleton key), love (oofta), astrology/mythology/religion (Pan), sexuality (Lusus Naturae), music (musica delenit bestiam feram), Q (Queen), and finally, his solitary waning crescent moon and his last London tattoo which also features both waning and waxing crescent moon would be about his oneness and interconnectedness with nature.
It's clearly a geometry tattoo, with celestial/astrology circles (divided into twelve fields), an enneagram (an approach to personality analyzing and development), triangles, a geometric diamond, and the two lunar phases.
The diamond was designed by Maxime Büchi, his tattoo artist:
You can see his tattoo shop in this video (presumably that's where Adam got his tattoo):
What does it mean? I can only guess that it is about oneness with nature, and about moon cycles - nature - dictating your personality... plus all the other meanings of geometric symbols of which there are thousands... I don't know if it's sacred geometry or not, but all these patterns and designs are found throughout nature. They reveal each form's vibrational resonances and symbolize the metaphysical idea of the part being related to the whole; you can't have one without the other. This concept of oneness and interconnectedness reminds us of our relationship to the ‘whole’, or the natural world and cosmos that surround us. But I'm sure Adam will tell us more about it. He chooses them with utmost care.
This is what Maxime Büchi said in one of his interviews:
"It always has to be a collaboration. I don’t tattoo things people just come [in] with. I have a specific style. I’m not good at reproducing things. My favorite customer would be someone very dedicated, someone who understands what tattoo is, someone willing to be inspired [and who can inspire] me, something that I love working on, but leaves me enough freedom to expand on the starting point, someone who is committed enough and daring enough to really go for it, someone who can come with a simple idea, but is willing to expand on it and do it. I do my best work on those type of people because it makes me want to push myself and do the best I can for them. It’s an honor for me. I love the result. I love something that’s striking, something that people might have a hard time learning to live with, but [something that] will change their identity. That’s what I like about tattoos. I like tattoos to be a new stone to the building of your identity."
I like this idea of a tattoo as a collaboration. So it's between Adam's mind, Adam's body, and his tattoo artist:)))
PS/// He collaborates a lot with Rick Owens:))) Maybe that's how Adam and he got to know each other.
