An artist I love is Linda Ronstadt. I consider her to be almost a female Adam because she has range, power, control, and versatility. She has sung everything from country to pop to rock to big band. She can sing soft and sweet and pure, and she can growl out a rock song with conviction. It breaks my heart that she has Parkinson's disease and can no longer sing. Picking just one song was a challenge. I thought about going with the haunting "Blue Bayou," or one of my favorites, "Long, Long Time." But I think this one really swings and listen to that extended note at 1:25. I'm sitting here, lunch getting cold on my plate, while tears run down my face. Thinking of Linda right now brings back so many wonderful memories. "Blue Bayou" reminds me of our honeymoon in Bermuda because we heard it many times during our stay there. My husband's youngest sister L.O.V.E.D. Linda when she was a teenager. She even got her hair styled like Linda at one point, and we'd hear her singing along to her records in her room all the time. I am crying because my sisterinlaw passed away last month at the age of 51, after a 15 year long battle with cancer. She was such a fighter....and I'm sorry I'm going off topic here. My emotions just welled up all over again, hearing Linda sing. My sadness includes tears for Linda and her terrible illness. Another lovely person stricken too young..... OK! I'm done. Please carry on while I stick lunch back in the nuker. Thanks for your patience! No patience needed..dontshakemytree, it is what music, good music does. Songs remind us of things we have done or felt. And in Adams case and a few others the voice its self makes us feel.

OUTmusic Awards Announced
The 25th anniversary of the LGBT Academy of Recording Artists will be celebrated with an awards ceremony hosted by Lea DeLaria and Ari Gold DECEMBER 15, 2014 - BY TOM PAUL JONES OUTmusic fest announces its ninth annual awards show for January 2015Celebrating its 25th anniversary, OUTmusic announced that its annual awards ceremony will take place at New York City’s Town Hall on Jan. 19, 2015. Lea Delaria, of Orange is the New Black, and Ari Gold, known as the King of Gay Pop, will host. Presented by the LGBT Academy of Recording Artists (LARA), the evening recognizes LGBT artists and producers who have made a significant contribution to music. (Adam mention)
"Diedra Meredith, CEO of OUTmusic and Chairwoman of LARA, has said, “In the mainstream music and entertainment industry the stigma associated with being openly LGBT is still an issue. Although you see the success of artists like Adam Lambert, Ricky Martin and some other famous recording artists who came out post-being successful, the time has yet to come for a major label to sign more openly LGBT recording artists. Perhaps Conchita Wurst will be the first! Change is coming, but we have a long way to go.”

YAY jj!!! Congrats. You'll have a blast! And hugs to you dontshakemytree. -------------------- So hard to pick one artist, one song, and in the end probably somewhat arbitrary, but I'm going to go with on of my very favorites, Townes Van Zandt, who also lived with difficulties and died too young. One of the greatest singer-songwriters in American history. In case you're unfamiliar, he lived somewhere at the intersection of folk, country, and blues, but don't let anti-country feelings turn you off him. His lyrics are among the most beautiful I've ever heard. Though he was not so well known in his lifetime, he had a loyal worldwide fanbase and was hugely appreciated by his fellow musicians; since his death in 1997 there's been a significant resurgence of interest. His most famous song is "Pancho and Lefty," a truly fantastic narrative song which was covered by many others including Willie Nelson. ( Here's a great video of him playing it if you're interested--lol to his intro: "I'll play a medley of my hit.") But that's not the song I'm choosing. I think I have to go with "If I Needed You," because it just gets me every time, so simple, so beautiful, so warm and gentle a love song. Also, I'm learning to play it on the guitar (though not with the pretty finger-picking yet because I suck) . The video is straightforward and not flashy, but I love this guy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaP8NGML_QEIf I Needed You (Lyrics): If I needed you would you come to me, Would you come to me, and ease my pain? If you needed me I would come to you I'd swim the seas for to ease your pain In the night forlorn the morning's born And the morning shines with the lights of love You will miss sunrise if you close your eyes That would break my heart in two The lady's with me now since I showed her how To lay her lily hand in mine Loop and Lil agree she's a sight to see And a treasure for the poor to find

Adam Lambert Named To Gay UK Recognition List
by SAM on Dec 15, 2014, 4:13 pm Glittery awards have been heaped on glam-rock superstar Adam Lambert all year long.
Now the current Queen frontman and pyro-vocal’d glamster received another award — Adam has been nominated for The Gay UK’s New Year’s Recognition List. Adam was nommed in the 2014 Entertainment category. According to The Gay UK website, recognition in that category is for “people or organizations who have contributed to the awareness of LGBT + people in the entertainment industry.” Adam is nominated against singer Joe McElderry, and the Drag Queens of London. Here’s what The Gay UK has to say about its Recognition List: “In the last month, thousands of people have nominated hundreds of individuals, projects and companies. We’ve taken the top three from each of the eight categories and it’s your chance now to vote on who should receive the New Year’s Recognition… “Recipients [in each category] will be announced on the 1st January 2015,” according to The Gay UK. Meanwhile, Adam himself spoke out this week, sharing his feelings about the conduct of police and law enforcement in the United States. Addressing his fans on Twitter, Adam referred to the recent tragic shootings of teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and the choking death of Eric Garner in New York. He tweeted: “I’m just gonna state the obvious – the recent rise in US Police Brutality and lack of judgement is disgusting. C’mon guys. WTF?” Adam them added: “I know there are a lot of good cops out there but the system’s f*cked. Justice has been warped. What do we do to fix it?”
