I totally understand the indignation that Adam gets more press for a semi-nude picture than for his amazing accomplishments and voice. That is fcuked up.
That is also celebrity culture here and around the world. That is the hallmark of pop music. Adam's goal is to have big hits on the radio and be a top tier pop artists. He could, if he wanted, make it as a Broadway musical star. He could, if he wanted, be a star in the opera world. He wants pop celebrity. Sigh.
He pushes boundaries, but ultimately, he has to play the game. It's a business. It has unspoken roles. One of them is, "Look young, svelte, sexy, and well-toned, and show it. Be objectified to be successful. " Now, I know some will say, "Oh, he doesn't HAVE to work out and show off his body. Star XYZ doesn't do that, and they had a number one album." True. But, they are in a small minority.
Adam has done a lot to reach his goal of pop stardom. He has stumped across the country and appeared in every podunk radio station. He changed his visual image for Era 2. He went along with the suits and released two "sure fire" singles (that underperformed). He has put up with paps, appeared at the right Hollywood galas, etc. So far, that top tier pop star goal has eluded him. It seems to me, that for this next Era, he is trying this new "sex symbol" angle. It's just a part of the gig. And, it seems to be working, frankly. If he has to work out for an hour daily in addition to doing vocal exercises for a similar length of time, in order to hit the top of the charts, then, go for it.
Superficial as hell? You bet. Pisses me off? Absolutely. But, hey, better to get attention from healthy exercise and healthy living than from going bat shit crazy or making absurd statements or being hospitalized for a drug overdose, or all the other things other pop stars are known for.
