OT, but we have discussed what it takes to make a hit... This youtube was posted here long ago, and makes me think the blurred lines guys should have used it for their defense instead of what they actually did! loha @lohablondie
this is good & considering the blurred lines ruling it's interesting to watch youtu.be/5pidokakU4I

I've been gone most of the day. Do we have this information? Very informative and interesting. Why, you say? Money. And money means marketing. Labels, managers, artists - they have only so many tools at their disposal to market releases: promo (which costs money), radio (which costs money), touring (which costs money) – you get where we’re going with this. Brands – with a much bigger wallet – can help make these things happen. While some might consider this “selling out,” others argue that it is just downright “good business.” And it makes sense. Not only did brands spend a ballpark $1.3 billion* on music partnerships last year, brands are no longer looking to only work with the Beyoncés and Lady Gagas of the world. Brands are striving to make genuine and long-lasting connections with both artists and customers. Informed by data and with the right campaign, brands can provide additional leverage to spread the word, entice new fans that are otherwise out of reach, and actually help break an artist. In return, the kids think they’re cool. Win; win. *According to IEG, LLC. Read more. www.nextbigsound.com/industryreport/2014

I really think that the topic today is important for many here, especially those less familiar with streaming. I loved what Q3 said about not building this 'Adam-only listening tower', that this is not helping anyone, especially not Adam.
Adam is trying to broaden his reach, not silo himself, and lots of core fans try to isolate him on some throne, but that is a very lonely place to be.
Instead, it should be about sharing, and sharing freely and quite frankly, not looking out for the pennies that streaming might earn him, because it does not matter. If his song is successful, the money stream will follow eventually, and if not, Adam is not exactly a starving artist. So, let's forget about the 1/1000 th of pennies and let's start thinking strategically for a moment.
Let's create a broad listening spectrum and a corresponding internet presence, because a) Everyone likes to discover new music b) We want to see Adam tying into many different public playlists with very different reaches.
I happen to be working with Rdio right now. I am listening to everything, except Adam on there, right now. But that does not mean, he is not on my mind. Example:
Rdio has tons of streams/playlists that are workout oriented, and given that this is clearly on Adam's mind, you might decide to take a hint, and start there. Within that workout subject, you can select by genre (i.e. EDM), and then, you can either listen to the tracks or jump over them, and what you like, you can move into playlists. You can also vote tracks up and down and move on, improving your profile, but not putting it in own playlists.
So, you might have a playlist for
'great pop vocals' 'workout music' 'quiet dinner background' 'teenager Halloween'
etc.
If other people find your playlist, then they start streaming the music you put into the playlist, on your behalf, now you are winning.
Right now, I have decided to build very broad lists, because I have no idea what Adam brings out, but even when his album is out, the last thing I want to do, is isolate or make it obvious, that he is my favorite pony.
You can make playlists public or not, and obviously you can find playlists from others, who have made theirs public. I still have a lot of endless discovering to do, even within that one software package. I do believe these weeks before the single or later album comes out, can be used to build this internet presence and perhaps find a few followers.
It's also fun to play around with such software like Rdio, so why don't you give it a try.
