I have been wondering about how Shazam, which seems very random to me, could be made to work for fan who has very little opportunity to listen to the radio in everyday life Can one bring up the song on their Spotify account or on YouTube, for example, and Shazam it? Would it be obvious that you are gaming the system by Shazaming yourself, and thus the Shazam wouldn't count? I have no idea if the Shazam app picks up the source of the song - they probably just match the sound to their enormous song library and toss out the result.
I just assumed that we would wait until we had heard it, on the radio or in the mall, and then we would Shazam it to "identify" it, because we don't know it . That tells Shazam that the song is catchy enough to get people asking it's name.

....As a facebook novice I wouldn't have known that and I appreciate advice re: keeping Shazam away from my profile info. Shazam is new and 411's info on how it functions was helpful to me, at any rate. If I hear a song I like, via radio or a retail or restaurant playlist, I should Shazam it because it will communicate to TPTB that somebody liked enough on first listen to want to identify it. After that , I can stream it instead of playing my iTunes library over and over again. THIS IS GOOD TO KNOW! I appreciate 411's effort. I will be trying my best to do the right things...and loading Shazam on my iPhone was a start. The link provided other links to read but....I still am naive about a few things. Should you Shazam Adam's new "hit song" only a time or two? I would think the Shazam app would recognize that I must be pretty "dull" if I kept on Shazaming for recognition. True? Which leads me to wishing to know.....and may make me appear dull about this topic...but here goes.. . What and where does a person stream a song? Vevo, Youtube, Spotify??? And, what is the difference between the action of "playing a song" versus "streaming a song"....or is it the same thing, just terminology? Thanks

My personal opinion is that we shouldn't try "gaming the system" because if it is detected it will reflect poorly on Adam.
My hope, and really the only way Adam will truly achieve the kind of success he wants (and we want for him), is that casual listeners will respond to the song and seek it out. The faithful Glamberts hopefully won't have to do the heavy lifting this era because there will be proper promotion from the label and that will generate radio interest which in turn will generate audience interest. That's how WWFM became a hit. That wasn't the Glamberts making it "appear" the song was popular, the song was actually popular.

IMO, and I'm not expert so take it for what it is, Shazaming a song multiple times will raise red flags, unless you do it weeks/months apart. Otherwise, as you said, you look dull
I would suggest Shazaming the song the first time you hear it on the radio and then as suggested in that 411 article hit stream and use whatever streaming service you are signed up for.
If you play a song via Spotify (a streaming service) and it is not a song you have downloaded to your device then you are streaming it. If you have downloaded it and it "lives" on your phone/ipad/computer then you are merely playing the song and those plays are not tracked for use on the BB charts. Ex: I own a lot of CDs, recent ones even, but rather than carry them all around with me I play them through spotify while I am at work. Those plays count towards the streaming of the album/songs because I have never downloaded them from spotify as I purchased the hard CD instead.

You might want to load Shazam on your phone just for fun. I did and was clicking through it when the Big Bang Theory was playing in the background. Just by the dialog (no music was playing) it identified the program and episode. It was a little freaky. Now I find myself Shazaming everything.

This article from MacRumors Nov 2014 says Pandora isn't counted in Billboards new streaming change. I believe I have read this before. Here is a paragraph from that article: Beginning on December 3, and measuring data during Thanksgiving week, the Billboard 200 will count 10 individual song sales or 1,500 song streams as a standard album sale. Billboard plans to incorporate data from every major streaming audio subscription service, including Spotify, Beats Music, Google Play, and Xbox Music. Ad-supported radio services like Pandora and iTunes Radio will not be counted, as Billboard is only planning to focus on on-demand services.Rest of the article: www.macrumors.com/2014/11/20/billboard-200-chart-streaming-music/We have been talking about helping Adam and Pandora keeps popping up. If it doesn't count, should we concentrate on the services that do? Just wondering. I guess Shoshanna will let us know. Oops...time to get ready for work. Does anyone know if BB will count music streamed on Amazon Prime Music?
