I have been wondering about how Shazam, which seems very random to me, could be made to work for fan who has very little opportunity to listen to the radio in everyday life Can one bring up the song on their Spotify account or on YouTube, for example, and Shazam it? Would it be obvious that you are gaming the system by Shazaming yourself, and thus the Shazam wouldn't count?
My personal opinion is that we shouldn't try "gaming the system" because if it is detected it will reflect poorly on Adam.
My hope, and really the only way Adam will truly achieve the kind of success he wants (and we want for him), is that casual listeners will respond to the song and seek it out. The faithful Glamberts hopefully won't have to do the heavy lifting this era because there will be proper promotion from the label and that will generate radio interest which in turn will generate audience interest. That's how WWFM became a hit. That wasn't the Glamberts making it "appear" the song was popular, the song was actually popular.
Thanks for wise advise. Agree that new and casual fans need to do the heavy lifting, but want to do my fan duty. The last thing in the world I would want is to have an action reflect badly on Adam's fan base. Since some seem to think it is important, I thought I would ask. In my case, a chance to randomly hear the single is very slim and getting the app for my phone would mean an upgrade, I will be content to help in other ways.

I agree. It has to just happen because the song is good and the listening audience falls in love with it. If the industry knew what makes a song a "hit", every song produced would be a "hit". Adam just has to produce music that he loves to perform, that is relatable on some level, and let the public's whimsy take it where it may go.

I will be trying my best to do the right things...and loading Shazam on my iPhone was a start.
If you play a song via Spotify (a streaming service) and it is not a song you have downloaded to your device then you are streaming it. If you have downloaded it and it "lives" on your phone/ipad/computer then you are merely playing the song and those plays are not tracked for use on the BB charts. Ex: I own a lot of CDs, recent ones even, but rather than carry them all around with me I play them through spotify while I am at work. Those plays count towards the streaming of the album/songs because I have never downloaded them from spotify as I purchased the hard CD instead.
Thanks glitter...AND...now you opened up something I had no clue about!!! (If I buy from itunes, streaming/tracking does not count on my devices.) What if I buy on my desk top and then do not sync it with my ipad etc. It means Spotify streams on my desktop will not count, but on my ipad it would? Or it synchs with all my same email address devices? Also I buy CD's albums and purchase itunes albums and singles. If I get you correctly...buying a CD for an album still allows streaming to impact on tracking numbers. But with this new counting system and singles coming out before the album...t here is obviously no CD to buy with a single. Are we screwed? What do you suggest:
a. Should we or should we not not buy the single on itunes, (as you mention...no amount of streaming then counts)? b. If we buy on itunes, is that worth more in the end than all streaming counts? Thank goodness we have some time to sort out the best approach.... ....and get confident about the steps to take.
