Listen to these 10 songs you might've missed this week
By Patrick Ryan, Brian Mansfield and Maeve McDermott April 24, 2015 1:28 pm
Don’t start your weekend without hearing our favorite new songs of the past week:
Ghost Town, Adam Lambert
youtu.be/toDqvHvTN7c
Madonna beat the former American Idol singer and frontman for Queen to the title — hers is one word, his is two — but Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball seems more like the source material. Had Cyrus’ demolition crew had laid waste to an entire town, leaving only a single dark but fabulously dressed figure to watch over its remains and make a film, Lambert’s single would be the whistling, EDM-inspired Ennio Morricone score playing over the opening sequence. — Brian Mansfield

Adam Lambert on His 'Ghost Town' vs. Madonna's 'Ghosttown': 'I Thought, What Are The Chances?'
ArticlesColumnsPop-Shop
By Jason Lipshutz, New York | April 23, 2015 12:27 PM EDT
"Hers is like a post-apocalyptic love song, mid-tempo, and mine's like an existential dance goth rave thing," says Lambert.
Ghost towns are all the rage in pop these days: just a few weeks after Madonna announced that the power ballad "Ghosttown" would be the second single from her new Rebel Heart album, Adam Lambert released the trippy house tune "Ghost Town" as the lead single from his upcoming third album, The Original High. In a new interview with Billboard's Pop Shop Podcast, Lambert says that the similar titles of Madonna's single and his own new track are just a strange coincidence -- although that coincidence did make him panic when he initially realized that the Queen of Pop had her own "Ghosttown" to release.
When asked by Billboard's Keith Caulfield if he had thought about the clashing titles, Lambert replied, "Oh believe me, I thought about that for more than a second. When I found that out, my song was already finished, it had already been mixed, I had already kind of said, 'Hey, I think this is the first single,' and people were like, 'Yeah I think it is too.'
"And I'm on my laptop on a little four-day vacation in Mexico," Lambert continues, "and I open up my iTunes, I'm searching through, and I'm like, Oh, Madonna's music is out! I love Madonna! I've always loved Madonna -- she's an icon, she's an amazing entertainer. And I see on the track listing a song called 'Ghosttown.' And I thought, What are the chances? What is the hell is going on here?"
At first, Lambert panicked a little. "My reaction was so complicated," he says, "because I think I texted my management, like, 'Did you see this? Did you see this? What are we gonna do?' And they said, 'You know, it's fine because the songs are so different.' Hers is like a post-apocalyptic love song, mid-tempo, and mine's like an existential dance goth rave thing. So they're two different songs -- they just share a title."
Released earlier this week, "Ghost Town" previews The Original High, Lambert's follow-up to 2012's Trespassing that's due out June 16. Madonna's "Ghosttown" music video was released Apr. 8 and co-stars Terrence Howard -- who will not appear in Lambert's upcoming "Ghost Town" clip. "Sorry, Empire fans!" Lambert says with a laugh.

Adam Lambert Will Tour as Solo Artist 'If People Like This Record'

The pop star also discussed working with Queen's Brian May on a new song.
In Billboard's recent interview with Adam Lambert for the Pop Shop Podcast, the singer discussed his upcoming new album The Original High (due out June 16), his new single "Ghost Town," his process of finding a new sound in Sweden and why he ultimately rejected an 80's covers project. Another topic that came up during the interview (but didn't make the podcast) was Lambert's upcoming touring plans -- which will hinge on the general reaction to his forthcoming third studio effort.
When asked if he was going to head out on the road in support of The Original High (due out June 16), the entertainer replied, "Yeah, if people like this record!"
Lambert last did a full-on solo U.S. tour -- the Glam Nation Tour -- in 2010, supporting his 2009 debut album For Your Entertainment. His follow-up set, 2012's Trespassing, "unfortunately" didn't have a proper associated American tour, he tells Billboard (though he did play have a short run of shows in Asia and eastern Europe in early 2013).
"There was a couple of freestanding (American) dates," Lambert says, "but unfortunately… I mean, you know, it's common knowledge Trespassing wasn't quite the commercial success that we all had hoped it would be, which would have supported a tour. I'm really, really thankful that the fans ate it up, and that we debuted at No. 1 on the (Billboard 200) chart. That was lovely. I stand by the album."
While Trespassing did debut at No. 1, it sold far less than his first album. Trespassing moved 101,000 copies in the U.S. according to Nielsen Music, while For Your Entertainment shifted 863,000 (it peaked at No. 3 on the chart).
Although Lambert didn't mount a full-scale tour in support of the Trespassing album, he did head out on the road with rock legends Queen for a handful of European shows in 2012, followed by a lengthy international trek in 2014 and 2015, which included 16 dates in the U.S. They just wrapped the European leg of the tour on Feb. 27, and will head back out on the road in September for a few shows in South America.
Lambert, who says he's never been to the continent, will join Queen as one of the headliners at the 30th anniversary edition of the massive Rock In Rio festival in Rio de Janeiro. They'll play the first day of the multi-day event on Sept. 18.
Lambert notes that Queen also headlined the first Rock In Rio, back on Jan. 11, 1985, "so this is a nice full-circle moment for them as well."
Fans of Lambert with Queen also have another reason to rejoice: Queen guitarist Brian May is a guest performer on The Original High.
"For the Queen fans out there that saw the tour," Lambert says, "Brian May is on one of the (new album's) tracks, playing guitar on a song called 'Lucy.' … I played him the demo and he was like 'Oh, I love this, I have some ideas.' So he came in with all this great stuff to contribute. It was really exciting."

How to buy "Ghost Town"
Make sure you but GT from iTunes. It is the real time music chart that matters the most.
If you want to buy more than one copy, you have two options:
1. Send an iTunes gift to people who you know will accept your gift. It only counts as a sale if you download it. I am a fan of real gifting because it spreads the music around.
2. If you don’t want to deal with gifting, you can buy a second copy from Amazon and maybe from a few more places that report. There are 28 places in the US that sell digital music: whymusicmatters.com/find-music plus Adam's official store.
