LOL! Gawd no. I was on a bus and nearing my stop when I posted earlier. I had to type quickly and keep it short so as not to miss my stop. Cassie or someone else may explain it better but what I meant is that Adam pronounces the long eee sounds as aaay sounds in the song and my ears like it. I believe there is technical reason or methodology for doing this but I'm not qualified to explain it. I just know how I react to it. So the Russian singer is actually pronouncing the word correctly (as did KA in NoBo) and Adam is modifying the pronunciation a bit to produce the notes a certain way. This should be clear as mud now. :-) NAL always sang bound -RAAAYYSS complete with the side ways twisted jaw. I don't ever remember him pronouncing the long e.

I really hate this sentence. As if all of Adams accomplishments are not important and he is relegated to a Runner up of Idol. The October 7 edition of NBC’s TODAY Show will feature a performance by eighth season “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert. headlineplanet.com/home/2015/10/02/cassadee-pope-performing-on-nbcs-today-show/Gammy nominated, chart topping, Queen front or at least singer/songwriter. No mention of Ghost Town. Either the writer is an intern with minimal research skills or it is deliberate.

LOL! :-) I understood you. It has to do with resonance in the oral cavity. (No snickering here. We are talking about SINGING technique.) When you produce the long eeeeeeee sound, you have to spread your lips wide and bring your upper and lower teeth rather close together. The middle of your tongue also arches toward the roof of your mouth. In short, you make your mouth smaller, hence less resonance and ring. By changing the vowel sound slightly to an ayyyyyy, you open your mouth wider and lower your tongue, making a larger space for the sound to bounce around and produce a fuller sound; more ring, more resonance, more consistency of tone. Give it a try. Sing a note in your midrange. Start with an eeeeeeeee, and try to feel the vibration on the roof of your mouth slightly behind your upper teeth. While continuing the note, drop your jaw and the vowel changes to an ayyyyy and you can hear the note has more power and you don't feel the vibration because the sound is in bouncing around a larger space. Now sing a high note with an open ahhhhhhh (not so high that you are straining). While sustaining the note, start moving to an eeeeeee. Hear and feel how the sound changes and gets quieter, tighter sounding and brittle? The higher up you go in your range to more you have to drop your jaw to hit the note. Singing an ayyyyy rather than an eeeee makes it easier to hit the note while still sounding close enough to an eee to make the word recognizable.
