Seoulmate huge hug and love to you! I read your post to my mother and she burst into tears it touched her deeply as it had me. Happy knowing that your mother is now free and beyond the struggle. kiss
Wal what a scare!!!! I am soo happy someone was there who knew exactly what to do! Nurses do not get their fair share of appreciation and kudos. VITAL. VITAL. VITAL.
Wal. Your son is so lucky. Two years ago I had the same thing happen to me, very unusual for someone my age. It usually strikes teen-agers. I was basically dead for a minute and it came completely out of the blue. Luckily, I'm in NYC and had incredible doctors. My heart was healthy as well, but I had an electric problem causing the arrhythmia. I had an ablation that basically cured the problem and I have been fine since, but my doctors said it's unusual for anyone to survive it, so that nurse's quick actions were definitely life saving.
Wal - what a scare for you. No wonder you were speechless. I cannot imagine . . . And Adamated - what a scare for you. I know of others. I am an acute care cardiac RN, and not unfamiliar with these arrhythmias and the need for implanted defibrillators, medications, surgical interventions. Just want you both to know I am here . . . and so grateful you are here, as well. I would put a few smilies in right here, if I knew how to do it!
one day I'll fly away; leave all this to yesterday . . .
adamated, that was so scary! I am glad you are okay now.
The experience was so surreal, when the principal called me at home, I didn't think of anything's serious, since he was such a healthy, normal 16-year-old. The school surveillant camera captured the whole thing on a tape, I haven't seen it but the doctors saw it and it helped them to determine that he wasn't having a seizure or asthmatic attacks like they were first told. It helped them identified the probable cause and changed the course of treatments immediately.
momtomany, my son still doesn't remember anything that was going on between the time he collapsed and five days later when he snapped out of it, but I am worried about his psychological impact from this trauma. Also, he wants to see the tape, is it a good idea?
In a sense I was lucky for not being there when it happened. His teachers, classmates, and the hero nurse are all very devastated. I can't imagine how scary it must be watching the real life trauma.
He is so very lucky, if it happened somewhere else, I think the outcome would have been different.
wal, a few days ago peeps were worried about you cuz you hadn't posted in a while. I guess we know why, now. I'm so glad your son is OK!!!!
Q3, thanks for starting this thread. Many here have become more than just Adam addicts together. Friendships have formed and we care about what happens to each other!
My news today is good news. It's been a year since I gave up my private practice and went to work for a birth center. I had my job eval today and my boss gave me a fat bonus so I can get some major dental work done with a promise for a raise next year. As well, she is also willing to pay for me to go back and get my RN eventually if I wish to pursue it!! I LOVE MY JOB!!!
Seoulmate, My mom also waited until all five of her children could be with her before she passed. We had a reunion of sorts because she was up and in her wheelchair, fully coherent until all my siblings left. In one week, she lapsed and passed. Moms know. Before she left, she began telling me stories of people who were coming to see her, of silver strands connecting from her to somewhere else. She shared all of her visions with me. I never judged them..they were true for her and, thus, for me also.
When my husband's mother went to hospice, she had a lovely room overlooking a golf course. It was a hospice donated by a wealthy family to anyone needing care. One afternoon, I stood by holding her hand and I heard a harp playing. It was one of the most surreal experiences. I felt angel wings. Came to be that a volunteer WAS playing the harp in the hallway..she only visited once a week. That night mom passed.
I tell you these separate stories only as a sharing of the peace I felt during each of these experiences. I am not a religious person, but a deeply spiritual one. I saw a tad between the veils because these beautiful women asked me to look.
I wish you and your family peace also at this time. We all grieve or process in our own way. The generosity of spirit of my mothers helped me in my journey of exploring death and dying. They live on always in my heart. I send you love.
I am so relieved to hear your son will be fine. What a shocker! People were expressing support to you on the thread and I wasn't sure why. I didn't need to know. I did know that I, too, wanted to send you a big hug and I did.
Now that you have chosen to share the circumstances of what happened, all I can say is I am overjoyed that your son received the prompt medical attention he needed!!! Isn't Atop the best?? I am deeply touched by the compassion shown here!
Look forward to seeing you post as you can..if you need a pick-me-up, you know someone is going to be available here..
seoulmate, sending you and your family much love. Your story of your mother's passing was beautiful, sad and very touching. Thank you for sharing such an intimate moment. I hope you can feel all the love being sent your way.

CONGRATS, amw!!! It is SO good to hear happy news today! To love one's job is a gift indeed and it sounds like your future is bright!!
Wal, all I can think to say about your son's amazing experience is Yikes, and then PHEW! In this case, a very precious Phew! so glad the nurse, teacher and other students all were able to act when it happened -- it's so easy for us to get paralyzed in situations like that.
Gelly, oh Closet Mistress you, hugs to you. Sorry you're having tough times. You spread so much light on Atop, you deserve some back.
Seoulmate, I was moved by your story of your mom's passing, but even more by how hard it must have been, day by day, these past years, for you and your family. Thank you for all you do here -- you're among the first to greet newbies (I know, I was one), and nobody can match your enthusiasm and witty pithiness (say that five times fast). I searched all day for something to say to convey my condolences, and finally came up with this -- Jennifer Warrens singing a song she co-wrote with Leonard cohen:
Where is the tree that can fully utter the silent passion of the soil? -- Abraham Joshua Heschel

blueberry: A tech question. When I post, I'm stuck in BB Code, can't get back to Preview. Any ideas? I have Preview as default in my profile, but that doesn't help.

Q3: blueberry. there should be a two labels on tabs at the bottom of the REPLY box -- one labeled Preview and one labeled BBCode. Can you see these or are they gone?
May 19, 2013 2:08:40 GMT -5
blueberry: Q3, I can still see the labels, but when I click on the Preview label, nothing happens. And every time I start a new post, it automatically takes me to BB Code. Otherwise it doesn't matter, but posting pictures would be easier in Preview (copy+paste).
