I don't know if anyone's still up but I had such a crazy end to this evening. I got out of the parking lot late and realized I was out of gas. Took awhile to find a gas station but I got back on the road, fired up the GPS and merged onto a highway. As I was merging, two buses were also merging and I had the instant hit - holy s**t, those are the tour buses. My hotel was right near the airport so I just rode behind to see if I was right and sure enough, they went to the airport. Two things were on my mind. #1 I was going to follow them and #2 I was going to remain invisible. They wound up not going to the terminal. They went to the Marriott and indeed, it was the buses. Didn't see Adam unload - really didn't want to. I drove into a guest parking lot and stayed out of sight. Felt weird enough giving in to the compulsion to follow them but honestly, what are the chance of "bumping into" those buses?
So with that edgy story, I will report that I friggin love that Adam is so totally unpredictable. Man alive. These two shows were worlds apart and amazing in their own way. Edgy is the buzz word. The atmosphere was edgy with the long wait. People did leave but not huge numbers. The floor got an influx of Glamberts so it was nice and full. But what totally fascinated me is that Adam did this particular performance in one of the most conservative cities. I haven't seen him this flamboyant in a long time. I love how it shook things out. Two groups - the ones that got Adam were super charged and the ones that saw the very stylized poses and moves and were out of there. The very nice apple pie couple next to me bailed after four songs. LOL. This was not a performance to win over new converts with his safe side. It was especially ironic in light of the earlier post about how male pop stars have lost their mojo after David Bowie and just play it safe. Too bad the author wasn't there tonight. (I think that article was on our list - I know I read it today)
But I also think the wait had an effect on Adam. It seemed amplify what he had in mind for this particular rendering of the set. There was the usual not happy with sound but there was something else as well, almost liked he sensed the need to make a statement. It reached its total glory with Lucy and Trespassing. Wow! It was wow the other night as well but something about his look and the energy in the arena and the whole contrast with PTX - it all funneled into this amazing momentum of the last songs. Trespassing really was the anthem in was meant to be in every way. He walked right in unabashed, fierce, glorious and proud. He made everyone's faces smile, gasp, and/or crack. He trespassed and did it in style and true to this particular facet of himself. KC will never be the same.
