I always had the impression that Adam self-financed and self-organized Fantasy Springs I (the one with the 8 minute WLL).
a) RCA and 19M/E/R/whatever did not want to take the chance on a tour, because album sales of FYE did not indicate that this was financially going to be profitable. Promoters seemed to be ready, just not label and management at the time.
b) There was a huge hoopla when RCA refused to list that concert on AO and was even unwilling to confirm the existence of this concert. They flat out denied knowing of the concert for weeks, and later gave a strange unconfirmed confirmation buried in comment section only. It created a problem because fans called the resort, panicking that they had fallen prey to some trick, and thought their tickets were not valid. The resort said that they had a valid contract in their hands, but RCA did not confirm that. It went back and forth for weeks. RCA was not involved with this, and therefore could not officially list it, and 19M was unresponsive - period.
c) Adam was usually accompanied by managers, sometimes even a security guard during that time, but not on this trip. He showed up alone in his car (where he practiced WLL), and was seen downstairs at the reception, settling his bills. His band traveled with a rented truck and a car, he came separately and on his own, and they all left the same way.
d) We never found out, what marketing Adam had planned for this show, because fans found out about it early, and the thing sold out immediately. No marketing was ever needed.
e) Adam was very emotional during that concert. His fans had validated him, when his label did not believe in him, and they had showed those doubting Thomases, that Adam was worthy of a tour. Vancouver after that, was some kind of organizational mix (somebody had jumped on board, but it was not fully sponsored via label either, especially not the second night extension). But basically, the success of these early shows gave Adam the ability to prove that he had an audience and could carry a tour. It was a very important moment for him. And FS I will forever remain as the ultimate Adam-fanbase love fest in my memory.
Btw, Adam is fighting those same silly doubters again in the US, 6 years later. Just read what our good friend John Moser had to scribble lately:
www.mcall.com/entertainment/lehigh-valley-music/mc-adam-lambert-fans-do-it-again-singer-tops-survey-of-who-readers-want-to-see-at-bethlehems-musikfest-20160103-column.htmlAdam is still fighting for that respect in the US. Moser was never pro-Adam, and ultimately, he does have a point that Adam did not totally sell out all the radio shows, including the wonderful one in Wilkes-Barre, but a concert would sell much better than the radio show, because Adam fans meanwhile know the drill, and radio shows are not always all that great audience-wise, and show-wise, even though Wilkes-Barre was darn good, I might say. Anyhow, I think Adam could do great at Bethlehem, PA and pull in a 5K crowd that otherwise largely would not come to that festival at all. It is not like this Musikfest has sold out all the other concerts/years. And Adam did sell out his gig in 2010, very much to John Moser's chagrin. Remember this fun old article, dug up curtsy of TBT:
blogs.mcall.com/lehighvalleymusic/2010/08/adam-lambert-fans-should-get-their-wish.html. Haha, good old grumpy John Moser.
