Never a dull moment, I suppose. This roller-coaster called following Adam Lambert is going full speed, isn't it.
What a smart move. And yet there is a challenge, would not be fun for Adam without one, I suppose:
Adam says 'no' to the obvious choice (Frank-N-Furter), and it is understandable and all good, a) from a time commitment standpoint, b) secondly from a type-casting standpoint, and c) from a risk-standpoint (carrying the lead in a venture that is seen as a risky undertaking to begin with). Smart.
And look what he gets to do in this 'small', yet not so small cameo:
a) There is a major bike-ride, however they will do that on a theater stage.
b) Tons of actions, a) show up and take over the scene and own it, b) sing c) play the sax, d) horse-play with the girl, d) interaction with all the lead characters of the film (well, except Riff-Raff, I suppose),
c) Campy sex scene with girl
d) Needs to butch it up to play the role
e) Gets killed violently
All that in about 4 minutes of screen time. Wow, what a role.
The biggest benefit of all. Adam needs to play against type casting, and if he succeeds in that, it will be noted.
Adam, who normally stands out in every crowd he ever walks into, could easily blend in with this cast. But obviously, that is not what the director can allow to happen. So, Adam needs to stand out against this group of characters. That will be his challenge.
But here is his opportunity also. With Meatloaf in that role, the rock performance was great, but the whole story-line that Frankenfurter is supposedly made envious by Eddie to such an extent that he wants to kill him, is drowned out in the absurdity of it all, it is not developed in this film scene, with Meatloaf playing the character. Adam with his looks and sex appeal, can actually play that threat, the guy who comes riding in and steals the girl or guy, the clone, or whatever and makes Frankenfurter totally freak out.
So, I think this is going to be great, and if Adam succeeds he will have demonstrated acting ability in a major way. Now I just hope, he really gets an good acting coach to help him get this just right. I hope this works out for him. This will be so good!
'GLAMBURGER' instead of 'MEATLOAF'! maybe on twitter.
