EXCLUSIVE. Queen interview before the concert in Romania
Nearly half a century of music, record sales, millions of fans worldwide, a huge list of awards and accolades, an impressive catalog of hits. All in one name - Queen. For the first time, the legendary British band comes in Romania, alongside American artist Adam Lambert. On June 21, in Constitution Square in Bucharest will ring the band's most famous songs. Andrei Tomescu went to London and chatted with Brian May, Roger Taylor and Adam Lambert.
Video hereIf you did not know who was Freddie Mercury and Queen is history, you could say that Adam Lambert has always been part of the legendary British band. And time has shown that Brian May and Roger Taylor have chosen not good, but very good! Why?
2014 - a spectacular tournament in the United States - Sold Out - and a fabulous concert in London on the night of New Year broadcast live and watched by 12 million people.
2015 - still a tournament sold out in 10 European countries, plus six concerts in Brazil show in Rock In Rio festival opening. Everything exactly 30 years since the inaugural edition in 1985 when the band Queen has managed to collect the largest public payer ticket in history - more than half a million spectators, two concerts. 2015 ended with a record 67 concerts sold out.
Adam Lambert - If someone had told me six years ago that I get to wander the world, touring with the band Queen, I would not have thought. I am glad I chose that song. It would have happened anyway, it was written in the stars.
The moment that changed history occurred in 2009 in the United States. Adam Lambert joined the famous contest American Idol and sang Bohemian Rhapsody first audition.
That is exactly the piece that, in 1975, brought the band Queen international recognition.
And the final of the 8th season of American Idol brought together for the first time the Queen and Adam Lambert.
Adam Lambert - was extraordinary. Came the final, we played together and it was certainly a sense of recognition, something seemed to fit.
Roger Taylor - I had heard about this brilliant boy, Adam Lambert, and sang "We Are The Champions" in that show was the first time we played together ... I think when we all felt that we fit very well
On June 21, Queen and Adam Lambert will sing in Constitution Square in Bucharest . But Brian May will be the first concert in Romania
- You, Mr. May, you were already in Romania in March, you sang with wonderful Kerry Ellis. How was it?
Brian May - Loved! Was awesome! We did not expect people to be so warm and welcoming. At my age it's great to go to a place where I was, to sing and to see people happy. I can not wait to go back!
Adam, however, coming in Romania is much more!
Adam Lambert - I am very anxious to get to Romania because my mother has Romanian roots. This is my origin and I have never been in Romania. My maternal grandfather or father, not sure if a generation or two before the mother, but are Romanian.
I have ensured that thousands of fans waiting for them in Bucharest and they have promised ...
Roger Taylor - A birthday party, a night to honor a great show with many great hits sung Queen of Adam.
Coincidence or not, the Queen comes first in Bucharest very year that marks 25 years since the death of Freddie Mercury.
The band is currently better known and more popular than ever.
Yet more than half the time passed without Freddie - Lover of Life, Singer of Songs, as described even Brian. Freddie was a good man, generous, sometimes impatiently.
He loved life, loved to compose and sing, loved Queen and received instead rightful place in the universal history of music in the hearts of fans that come and now, 25 years after his death at Garden Lodge to honor his memory.
- Adam, if you could ask him something Freddie, what would it be?
Adam Lambert - I think I'd like to understand who was his creative process. I do not know if I could ask him one question, I'd like an entire conversation. It would have been great to talk and understand that he was addressing, as inspired as he felt on stage.
In 1991, when Freddie died, many said that the Queen will go out with him. Nothing could be more untrue. That something special, unique and brilliant in their music made almost every song they composed and recorded to pass the test of time.
- What is your favorite song from Queen?
Adam Lambert - All are absolutely wonderful. I think I identify best now Somebody To Love, because ...
- I think it was his favorite and Freddie.
- I think it says what each of us sometimes feel alive.
Over time, the music of Queen conquered hearts and charts. And continues to do so because of their dedication which Brian May and Roger Taylor, now with Adam Lambert, Queen keeps it for what it really means. And if Freddie had lived, he would surely have agreed and would have loved Queen and Adam Lambert.
