Listening to that original version just pisses me off. Why do producers have to mess with his stuff so much? I wonder how different Adams path would have been if he had trusted his own instincts more and stuck to his guns as far as single selection, production etc

I can't get my fix from the finer things. Thanks! I edited both your corrections in the original post. Think we got it now right?

Yes, goosebumps, indeed! I also love this "softer" version of the song and the way he sings it very much! And those original lyrics, that sound so sad and somehow desperate, are also very touching!

Yup, I like this version better, too. The lyrics are much deeper and more fully explore the feeling of ennui and need for something more, something new. I also prefer it without falsetto. Max made it a lot more pop-y sounding, with more of a hook, maybe, but less intellectual. IMO.

WOW! I've never heard this before. Lots of "drug" references....guess they cleaned up those lyrics. Is this a real demo? I think its the opposite. In this version I can tell he is using drugs as a metaphor. In Max's, I find it ambiguous I agree he's using drugs as a metaphor....just thinking in the pop world the public might only gleen the actual words. Maybe I'm short changing the pop public's discerning abilities. lol

Wow! I love how the start of the song and the chorus remained pretty much the same. The rest gives such a different feel, but still so smooth, so gorgeous. Goosebumps! YES YES YES!!!!WOW! I love this version! It's so dark and down and gritty. The official version is great and I wish it had been a single, but I love knowing that this early version is where the song started. I can see why the song was edited. The drug imagery is very strong and quite specific. The final version is much more metaphorical IMO. I LOVE his voice so much. I just know that his next mega-hit is out there just waiting to be written and heard everywhere!
