10 Burning Questions About The Rocky Horror Picture Show Revival Answered
By Megan Vick
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the next musical event coming to your TV screens.
The all-star cast reimagines the 1975 movie with Victoria Justice as Janet, Disney's Ryan McCartan as Brad and Laverne Cox as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. While it won't be live, Fox is hoping to follow up the critical and commercial success it had with Grease Live! earlier this year.
The cast of the musical and executive producers answered the press' burning questions during their panel at the Television Critics Association fall previews on Monday and TVGuide.com was there to get all the scoop. Check them out below.
1. How will the live audience aspect be handled?: The callbacks that make Rocky Horror such a cult classic will be incorporated into the Fox film via a theater audience of fans that touches back to the action of the story. The concept was integrated into the revival from the very start, according to executive producer Lou Adler. "It was there from the beginning," he said. "We wanted to celebrate the fans with the departure."
2. Why is there no live singing?: Every actor in the new Rocky Horror sings every note their character sings on screen, but the movie wasn't filmed with live singing. Director Kenny Ortega says it was to save time in editing, but he promises there's still some magic of a live performance. "We never knew what was going to happen on any given day," he said. "For all that we rehearsed, there was still so much spontaneity."
3. What was Lou Adler's first reaction to remaking it?: "It sounds a little corny, but I waited for basically the fans to tell us what to do next. We started doing this television idea quite a while ago and it just wasn't the right time," Adler said. "Then Tim [Curry] came along and validated it by wanting to be in it and Kenny came along to direct it to another place."
4. How does Tim Curry feel about this?: Curry has a role in the revival as the Narrator, but it's not the one he originally wanted. He quipped that he originally offered to play Dr. Everett Scott because "I'm already in a wheelchair."
5. Why remake the movie with another movie instead of a live special?: Justice explained that she's most excited that the musical event will be able to introduce the cult classic to a new generation of fans. "It's really cool to introduce Rocky Horror Picture Show to a brand new generation that probably wouldn't be exposed to it otherwise. ... Now a whole new generation is going to be able to sing along to 'The Time Warp,'" she said. "They're going to be able to be familiar with these characters who can inspire them in a lot of different ways. We have a transgender, amazing, talented woman playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter is a real reflection of where we are now as a society. "
6. Why was Laverne Cox the perfect fit for Dr. Frank-N-Furter?: It's hard to imagine anyone filling Curry's iconic high heels, but Ortega is adamant that Laverne Cox is a force to be reckoned in the revival. "She's a force, a five-octave range, a degree in dance from a major university, acting her heart out in New York and studying for over 15 years, walking into the room and making us all realize there was no B plan," he said. "She had so much to give to it: a life experience, a depth of talent, an enthusiasm and an incredible respect for this film. She was just an absolute joy. We knew it from the beginning that this person that gave us a reason to make this movie, again."
7. Was there more to Cox's casting?: Asked point blank by a reporter if Cox being a transgender woman had anything to do with her casting as "Sweet Transvestite" Dr. Frank-N-Furter, producers stressed that the character is an alien, not a transvestite, and to add such labels is missing the entire point of Rocky Horror. "Tim is not a transvestite, and nor is Laverne. They are both incredible, iconic actors that have achieved an incredible amount beyond these roles in their careers," Ortega explained. "That's really what we were looking for. We were looking for the right actor that could breathe life and fun into this, to liberate this character and play with the transformation of this wonderful story."
8. How did Victoria Justice get the role of Janet?: Justice's agent mentioned in passing that Fox was doing a revival of Rocky Horror and she demanded a chance to get in the room to audition, having been a fan for years. "I got to read in a room with some oily men auditioning for Rocky and sing 'Touch Me,' which is a really a dream come true and here I am today," she gushed.
9. How did Reeve Carney find his own version of Riff Raff?: When trying to come up with the new incarnation of Riff Raff, Carney tried to watch what inspired Richard O'Brien in the original incarnation of the role -- which means a lot of B-horror movies.
10. How were the heels for Riff Raff?:Carney loved the heels he had to wear for Riff Raff. The rest of the cast confirmed that he never took them off, even for lunch.

New “Rocky Horror” Trailer Previews Five Legendary Musical Numbers
We see you shiver with antici—
by Matthew Tharrett
Fox offers a deeper look at the upcoming Rocky Horror Picture Show reboot in a new action-packed trailer, complete with a preview of the cast performing the iconic opening number, “Dammit Janet.”
Other tracks teased in the new trailer include “Science Fiction/Double Feature,” “The Time Warp,” “Sweet Transvestite,” and “Hot Patootie—Bless My Soul.”
The new adaptation stars Laverne Cox as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Reeve Carney as Riff Raff, Adam Lambert as Eddie, Staz Nair as Rocky, and Tim Curry, who originated the role of Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 original, as the narrator.
Despite backlash the production faced immediately after it was announced, the remake received the highest praise on Monday in the form of Curry’s blessing.
“Just doing it again, but in a different role . . . it was a lot of fun,” he told reporters. “I remembered quite a lot of the original film because it was my first movie. . . . It was fun though to do it again.”

Adam Lambert steals the latest trailer for Fox's 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' remake with an outrageous rendition of "Hot Patootie" as Eddie.
Adam Lambert bursts into the Annual Transylvanian Convention in the bombastic new trailer for Fox's remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The ex-American Idol star is set to play Eddie, the ex-delivery boy and former lover of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. In the latest trailer, Lambert belts "Hot Patootie — Bless My Soul" with outlandish zeal that does justice to the role's original actor, Meat Loaf.
The rest of the clip features snippets of other classic Rocky Horror tunes, including Ryan McCartan as Brad Majors, singing, "Dammit Janet" and Laverne Cox as Frank helming a sultry rendition of "Sweet Transvestite." And of course, no Rocky Horror clip is complete without an eye-popping tease of "The Time Warp."
The Rocky Horror Picture Show remake will air October 20th on Fox. The new cast also features Victoria Justice, Reeve Carney, Christina Milian, Annaleigh Ashford and Ben Vereen, while Tim Curry — the original Dr. Frank-N-Furter — will make a special appearance as the Criminologist.

Hot Patootie! Watch Adam Lambert in New 'Rocky Horror' Trailer
by Michelle Amabile Angermiller
FOX is giving Rocky Horror fans another taste of the upcoming remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And while we aren't getting a second helping of Meatloaf again, we are finally getting a glimpse of Adam Lambert in action as "Eddie."
In the clip, our hapless hero Brad (Ryan McCartan) serenades Janet (Victoria Justice) before proposing in "Dammit, Janet!"
The scene then segues to Annaleigh Ashford tearing it up as Columbia for "The Time Warp" (and Reeve Carney as the suddenly hot looking Riff Raff) before sliding into Laverne Cox's showstopper, "Sweet Transvestite" as Frank-N-Furter.
The kicker is Lambert, as the American Idol alum bursts into the scene like a bat out of hell on a silver black phantom bike to declare his love for rock 'n' roll in "Hot Patootie-Bless My Soul."
Directed by Kenny Ortega, Rocky Horror airs Oct. 20 on FOX.

TIM CURRY GIVES 'ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW' TV REBOOT HIS BLESSING
A new trailer starring Adam Lambert as Eddie has also arrived
Bianca GracieBianca GracieAugust 9, 2016
Remakes of classic musicals are usually a win, but sometimes they can go way left (see January's Grease Live!). Luckily, Fox's upcoming TV reboot of The Rocky Horror Picture Show seems to be very promising, and Tim Curry agrees!
The actor, who famously played Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 original and appears in the reboot, shared his thoughts on the remake at Fox’s semi-annual presentation to the Television Critics Association. When asked if he gives it his "unequivocal blessing," Curry said "I do indeed."
Curry, who is wheelchair-bound after a stroke in 2012, continued:
“Just doing it again, but in a different role...it was a lot of fun. I remembered quite a lot of the original film because it was my first movie...It was fun though to do it again. I actually offered myself as Dr. [Everett] Scott, because I was already in a wheelchair. They thought the narrator was a better fit, and I enjoyed it a lot.”
Laverne Cox will play the iconic role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a.k.a. the "sweet transvestite from Transexual, Transylvania." We already got a first look of her character, but a new trailer reveals Adam Lambert portraying Eddie.
Watch that below, and look out for Fox's The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Oct. 20, at 8 p.m.

Meanwhile Laverne Cox is taking on the iconic role of Dr Frank N Furter.
The new Rocky Horror Picture Show will be on US screens on October 20 at 8pm ET on Fox.

Adam Lambert Goes EDM with Tritonal on ‘Broken’
Adam Lambert just can’t be pinned down to any ol’ genre.
From his own extensive solo discography to touring the world with Queen to divining disco-inflected greatness with with Avicii and Nile Rodgers, the talented Idol alum lays his golden chops wherever he sees fit.
As a result, it’s no surprise to see that he’s now dabbling in dance floor territory again.
For his latest trick, the Original High crooner is heading straight into EDM festival territory alongside Austin-bred producer duo Tritonal on their upcoming track, “Broken,” to be released off of their forthcoming record Painting With Dreams on August 12.
The moody club cut evokes shades of Lambert’s own latest album (a la “Ghost Town”), plus a bit of Justin Bieber‘s work with Major Lazer.
The thankful track — an ode to an emotional savior of sorts — builds up slowly-but-surely as Lambert gratefully croons his way through: “When we met, you made me forget / That my heart was ever broken!” declares. “Looking at me / You wouldn’t believe that my heart was ever broken.” Enter beat drop!
Hungry to hear it? Fear not, Glamberts: where there’s a will, there’s a way…for your entertainment. During a recent set in Buffalo, NY, Tritonal debuted the track for the crowd, which has been (mostly) captured in full below.
Tritonal is currently out on their Paintings With Dreams Tour, while Adam is heading to Asia with Queen.
Adam Lambert Joins Tritonal & Jenaux For Club Banger “Broken”
By Mike Wass
Adam Lambert is technically off cycle (i.e. promo for The Original High is over), but he’s busier than ever with judging duties on X Factor Australia and a starring role in the upcoming remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Glamorous One has also been prolific on the music front with stand-alone single “Welcome To The Show” and a feature on Tritonal & Jenaux’s “Broken,” which is rumored to drop on Friday (August 12). Previews and LQ versions have already surfaced online and it’s a banger.
“Broken” has all the ingredients of a summer smash. There are tropical flourishes (I want to be over it but I’m not), a bouncy drop and an emotional vocal courtesy of Adam. “Looking at me, you wouldn’t believe that my heart was severed, bro-bro-broken,” he sings on the chorus. Think The Chainsmokers’ “Closer” meets “Another Lonely Night.” You can listen to a LQ preview of the song, which was recorded at one of Tritonal’s live shows below.
