As discussed yesterday, it's hard to tell if in the lyric video, one of the lovers is male or female, which is probably the intent, so that people could decide for themselves. Why they do this still, so that it could be universal and not just a song about same-sex couples? The lyrics are so personal, that if the video was true to Adam, the sex of the lovers would not be so ambiguous. If Sam Smith and Olly Alexander videos can show same-sex themes, maybe someday, we'll see the same with his videos. I wonder sometimes, if the backlash from the AMA awards show, holds him (or whoever produces his videos) back.

So they are non threatening.but Adam's sex appeal is.

I love the fact that Adam is calling it "my song". He's very proud of his contribution...which he should be. Wonder if he contributed at all to the lyrics. It's such fun for these single releases like WTTS and now Broken to just pop up and surprise us. Keep um coming.

Plus, I think of the image in question as androgynous which is a thing in itself and not just an attempt to be more universal and avoid homo- or hetero-sexuality. I am loving all these interim songs. I am wondering what new thing he will come up with next ... country? OK, maybe not

SS, Olly, etc. They are sexually benign. Adam incorporates his sexuality from time to time (gay or just general sexuality) into his performances in various degrees. It's part of who he is and he doesn't hide it. It does set him apart from any other gay male pop singer that I can think of.
