Ok, this is funny, but AFL seems to have caused false music memories in my head. A few days ago there was a nice discussion here about Adam's range and voice quality, and Steve Perry of Journey was mentioned. Since today is Sunday and I have nothing else to do, I just went to YouTube to check out an actual live performance of Don't Stop Believin' to refresh my memory. It was pretty awesome, but while listening to the sustained Ohh after "Streetlights, people...", I thought "Hmmm, he is holding back and not really going for it". So then I checked out a mashup of the Steve and Arnel studio versions, and neither of them "went for the high note"! Then it dawned on me: It was ADAM who did this, not Steve! I was remembering the melodic line from the AI performance and Idols tour! Searched for that, and indeed it was Adam who "went for it", Steve or Arnel never did... And here is the ending of the Tacoma Idols Tour show: youtu.be/o_qwYy9RREQ?t=303My musical memory is totally damaged, if Adam performed something, it is his version that is stuck in my brain! I suspect I am not alone... Wait.... What? You mean that high E is NOT part of the original song? It's the climax of the song. I wait for the phrase with anticipation. I've been Adamized again! ETA: I had to go back and listen to the original studio version. Couldn't believe that the E was not at least performed in the studio. Nope. Not sung. But, in the instrument break, the lead guitar is the one that plays that sequence.

Listening to another Idol live version, Adam was not content to hit the E5. He went on and bumped it up to a G#5! Damn, Adam! youtu.be/VmIRFEYaD5U?t=4m18s

(without understanding of what was said) looks like a great retrospective of Adam's musical career! Isn't Japan the 3rd largest music market in the world? - makes me VERY happy!

Thank you soooo much, that was wonderful on Adam.. What a career he has had and the retrospective didn't cover many places Adam has sung or been on .. like TV Glee ,RHS etc. I am over the moon ..still the tip of the iceberg for Adam's talent.. IMHO.so much more to come....

Except that I like to think of it as my musical memory being "enhanced". Yes, there are covers Adam has sang where i can't listen to the original anymore. Kryptoman, love that you did a little research on this. I have noticed that often, when "experts' (ie: young too cool for school young men on music blogs) do voice comparisons using Adam, and Adam comes out second or third, they often use a recorded version of the other person with a live version of Adam. I have even seen this with Freddie comparisons. ETA: Tacoma, of the Idols tour, always reminds me of this! Love this so much! Wonder how this felt to Kris every night? www.youtube.com/watch?v=2omf10g3JuEPatti, thanks for posting. This is what sealed the deal on this obsession of mine. I loved Adam on AI but had no plans to go to the Tour. Went on the spur of the moment. Seeing Adam live in Tacoma was such an OMFG moment and I was hooked. I sometimes wonder what would have happened if I hadn't gone. He is a million times better in person.

DH and I went to the San Jose concert, big sacrifice on his part lol...I swear I don't even remember anybody else besides Adam. DH, who is by no means a fan as he's a big classic rock fan and not pop, said it was so obvious that Adam was so far out of everybody else's league. He hadn't watched AI so when I pointed out who had won the show, he didn't believe me lol.
The crowd went absolutely nuts when Adam's segment started. My only regret for that concert was that we had nosebleed seats. It was a last minute decision to go, DH wanted to surprise me when he heard the concert was nearby. He supports my obsession lol, even bought me tshirts....AI and the Queen concert in San Jose.

I have always loved "Tracks of My Tears". I used to sing along to the memory of it in my head. But then whenever I would hear the actual recording it was never the same as what I had been hearing in my head. The version that played in my memory was slower and more emotional without the bounciness and the big climax. Then Adam performed the song on Idol and I was completely flabbergasted because THAT was what I had been hearing in my head my whole life!
