My thoughts:
1. I think that no matter how comfortable one is with something, there is always a whiff of, "But what other people will think." IMO, no matter how we might try to deny it. Or strive to ignore it. And IMO, that makes us have a layer of cultural consciousness that influences, in varying degrees, how we view something.
2. I think the amount of pervasive mocking humor centered around effeminate behavior takes a toll on perception of that behavior.
3. I also think we can be uncomfortable with gender role permutations. It seems there is a certain amount of expectation for appropriate gender behavior. So if that behavior sways far to the ends of the spectrum, it can be, again, culturally uncomfortable.
4. How awful it must be to try to transcend and deal with those expectations just because of being born a certain (different) way. My opinion only. Also, how very very courageous to behave in a harmless but reviled manner in our society. I shudder to think what they have had to deal with. Also my opinion only.
5. Would those same behaviors in a woman make people uncomfortable?

To #5 assuming by same behaviour you mean not conforming to 'traditional' behaviour, all you have to do is pay a bit of attention to the US presidential election.

Would those same behaviors in a woman make people uncomfortable? The thing is I have never seen a female from a child to an adult woman that is as effeminate as Johnny and yes he makes me uncomfortable. If an adult woman acted the same way I'm sure I would be uncomfortable with that as well. Just my opinion but I think some of Johnny's behavior is exaggerated on purpose. I probably didn't post this correctly, it's been months since I have posted, but I'm here supporting Adam everyday.
