I really don't understand US radio. Nick Fradiani is 1465 on Itunes yet he is getting very good spins on CHR and HAC. and moving nicely up the charts. I remember seeing Adam in the 110 to 80 on Itunes and thinking that his radio play and move up the charts will continue to be anemic unless he does a lot better on Itunes. So does this mean that Itunes position plays little in how a song charts or is pushed on radio? Or does charting depend more on how hard the label pushes the song? US radio is very complex but for radio formats which are focused on music the basic objective of a radio program director is to play music that attracts the target audience of interest to advertisers. They will use any outside data including streaming numbers and iTunes to understand what is popular with their target. Top 40/CHR (Contemporary Hits Radio) stations typically target people aged 18-29 or 35, skewed female. Some CHR stations push the upper age limit up to 49, some down to 15. Depends on the advertisers and competition in their market. Musical tastes in the US vary a lot -- and the music played on hits stations reflect local preferences. The most successful artists on CHR and HAC (Hot Adult Contempary) stations (Adam's target radio formats) are popular across all the regions and for a broad set of demographics. Maroon 5 is an example of an act that is broadly popular. For most tracks released and promoted by a major label, radio airplay leads iTunes -- meaning iTunes position will go up for the first three weeks of airplay. Nick Franiani's "All On You" is being promoted by his label to Top 40/CHR and HAC stations and it is getting some airplay -- maybe more than it deserves but it is an OK song. His label (Big Machine) is clearly cutting some deals to get airplay. They cannot directly pay for airplay but they can do other things -- from funding advertising on radio station websites to contest money/prizes to appearances and artist performances. We'll see what happens with A4 and its singles. Adam's non-album single (WTTS) was not promoted to radio and the indie dance tracks that Adam is featured on were not promoted to Top 40/HAC radio and are not intended for mainstream airplay.

I think the EMAs was really a tryout for if the Queen audience would accept Adam -- because they knew Adam could pull of the music/performance part of it from the 2009 performance. The unanswered question remains, did Roger and Brian do the Idol Finale (2009) as a way to meet Adam because they needed a new frontman. This has been hinted at, but never said by anyone from Queen. We do know that they wanted to talk to Adam right after the performance but were not able to.

Shopping in my local JC Penneys store here in NE FLorida(Palatka) and just walked in started to shop and got so distracted because Adam's beautiful voice singing "I AM the Light" starting playing, it is such a beautiful song...had to tell the nearest person to me ,an employee stocking, that it was Adam Lambert singing .....so made my day Isn't it such a great feeling when you are out somewhere in public and you hear Adam playing?! Stops me cold in my tracks to listen with the biggest smile on my face!!Totally agree...that is me too. I Am The Light is pretty special to hear as it is not even one they tried for radio. I have heard WWFM, IIHY many times at restaurants, department/clothing stores...etc etc but rarely ever "B" songs. Better than I Know Myself was playing in Moxie's restaurant last Sunday morning. YAY!
