True - especially the name change. I don't think it's fair to the dog myself - although I wouldn't dream of judging Adam for doing it - if this IS Max. I don't think a name change is a big deal to a dog. I wouldn't be surprised if most rescued dogs undergo a name change. I think they respond as much to the tone of voice and attention as to anything, and within a couple of weeks will be used to the new name. In the instance of going from one home to perhaps a shelter or rescue facility or foster home (or all three!) to a new home, a name change is probably a minor detail to the dog. I agree. I had two rescue cats whose origins were unknown. The rescue center staff assigned them new names before I adopted them. When I changed their names they quickly learned the tone of my voice and responded without problem. It also took them no time at all to get me trained to respond to their every whim. I lost them both and really miss them. A twist on this is the story of my only offspring (son) who decided at the age of 30 that he wanted to change the name I so carefully chose for him at birth. I still haven't gotten used to the new one he's using and every time I forget and call him by his original name, other people say "Who?" My sister also changed her first name 3 times - my mother ignored them all.

Pharaoh is one handsome dog with such expressive eyes. What a stunning pair!
I wonder if headphones to protect a dog's ears from loud noise exist. Does any one know? I've seen babies and children wearing them at concerts. Lately my hearing impaired DH talks so loud that my 15 year old kitty runs out of the room when he starts shouting.

Animal shelters always make sure animals have names (whether the animals were turned in or stray). I changed 2 of the 3 names of my adopted dogs. They didn't even respond to their old names after a while. Of course, animals don't even know what a name is anyway. I hope Adam has a great time with his new friend. I've been lucky to have dogs that adapted well to whatever my schedule is. I think a lot of dogs can do that. Adam will be able to hire excellent care for his dog when he is away--whether someone comes to his house or the dog goes to doggy care. That is one cute dog.

I can't view it. Do you mind telling us what it is? I tried to delete it when it came up with someone's Facebook photos - Sorry about that. It said ... "January 12th is National Kiss a Ginger Day!"
