This was the mention for Jimi Hendrix: "4. Jimi Hendrix (lived 1942 - 1970) James Marshall, or Jimi, known for his iconic compositions like 'Purple Haze' and 'The Wind Cries Mary', was an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter. One of his first instruments was a one-stringed ukulele which he had found in the garbage of an older woman's home. He followed the songs of Elvis Presley and learned music by ear. As his biography mentions, his inability to read or write music made him focus better on the music he heard. His praise in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 'arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music', qualifies him to be the most influential musician emerging to fame in a short span of just four years."
I think in Jimi Hendrix's case he probably invented/played musical notes that you couldn't find or read on a music sheet page!LOL Some of the sounds he made with his guitar were incredible and ground breaking in music! And he couldn't read a note of music. So I can see Adam not being able to read music but that VOICE making ground breaking sounds in music!

I will never understand how and why would anyone have any difficulty reading music notation...is it some form of dyslexia? after all it's the same as reading...even easier imo.... I can understand not being able to spontaneously take a sheet of music and play from it without any prep, especially something very complicated and fast - is THAT what they mean when they say "can't read music"? If you can read it, it is easy. But if you can't it is hard. My mother also never learned to read music. Even though she can sing very well. She can see if she needs to go up or down though, but she won't be able to say if it's a c or a d. She also tried guitar lessons, but after 4 years she still couldn't play anything. She als tried the piano and flute, but she just couldn't get it to work. She doesn't have feeling for it. Even though she can dance and sing. That is a bit unfair, I think,...to assume someone who can't read music but sings, is dyslexic! There is a whole phonetic dimension and a very specific 'grammar' to music that can be extremely difficult to master without a darn site more than a few hours of education. I have sung in chorus's for years and have come to recognize much of the notations...but I cannot read the phonetics [that is, sing the note from sight, with no instrumental orientation] and in my experience, there are few who can. I also cannot 'read' the notation and translate it with any speed...I am not able to read and translate to sound flats and sharps, crescendos and volume notations[ff, pp, p, f, pf....] while also noting time changes [2/4; 3/4] and key changes....quarter notes; full; 8th..... notes to hold and watch the conductor...I know all these things if I had to write a test...but read them and perform without hours of rehearsal and practice...not. I make no claims whatsoever that I can read music because I can't...I can get my pitch from a pipe or piano and then keep up with others to orient to...but to pick up a piece of music and 'read' it into song...not. If you can, great, but even with masses of training, there are many who do not have the ear to simply translate the written page to the sung note. To the piano...with years of training, of course...but to voice, you need to have been blessed with perfect pitch on top of all the above. Not just a matter of a few hours of theory...yikes...not for me anyway...I wish...I had a musical director once, years ago who did. And there is one Tenor in my section who does and he is a delight to have singing behind you .... like a cheat sheet...

Watched 3 minutes of that Access Hollywood interview and had to turn it off. Who wants to hear about Gaga and Beyonce? One of the worst interviews I've seen in a while. I felt the same way. I guess if you are are Gaga or Beyonce fan or big fan of the pop ladies it was good for you. But I was interested in Adam and Queen as they don't get as much US tv time. Some of the headlines about the interview even had Gaga in them. I am pretty sure Adam did not go on to give her more promo as she/Beyonce don't need it. He went there to promote Queen and himself. But still happy to see him getting a lot of tv and print. Hopefully this will be the last time they try to make his interview about the S/B
