I would be very happy if someone came up with a new singing competition. I burned out on The Voice and have not watched for a year. If they bring back Idol, I will pass but have no objection to it. I just would prefer Adam not be involved in an Idol reboot -- but that is up to him. If I am going to have TV dreams for Adam, then I want him to have a late late night live chat show on cable -- so he can be crazy. And I want him to sing on every episode. IMO, if Idol comes back, it has to come back different. It can't be the same format, but hopefully, they will keep the focus on the contestants. Maybe keep Ryan. I think he was the glue that kept thatn show together. I'd like to see a kind of combo of XF/Idol. Idol, but with mentoring. Loved Australia XF so muhc last season with Adam. Simon totally screwed up XF here, didn't adapt it to American taste. I think Simon can come up with something new and exciting. Someone here suggested a great idea last week about a new prize package instead of a label contract,. Like a single, with the promise of Spotify and promotion, etc. I think the labels are over giving out contracts. IDK, exactly what happened with Alisan, but I am 99% sure she did not sign with Republic. Starting from the end of your post -- I just cannot see Alisan having much commercial appeal. She also really does not seem to have very many fans online that are not Adam fans. *** On the bigger topic -- if I got to design a new AI, I would start completely fresh. I would have a new, young host -- so no to Ryan and def no Randy. I would make it work with people time shifting so maybe broadcast the performances on Tuesday and do the winners on the following Monday. I would let people have almost a week to vote with their ears and money (streams and sales). I would make the "voting" status viewable online. I would have a lot of BTS content available online. For the competition, I think I would have the contestants have to do more different things. Make videos, be part of a remix, do interviews, and so on. And I would make it only contemporary music -- lots of genres but no covers or 40 year old songs, no "Rat Pack Week," no MoTown, no disco and no Classic Rock. I would make it a search for a current artist -- could be pop, country, urban, R&B, dance, whatever. Current. And I would make it a little cheezy -- that was part of the charm of Idol and is mostly missing from The Voice. I would not have a save or any judges interfering but I would have expert coaches and I would have a panel to comment on the performances. And I would also let people in the audience comment on the performances. Instead of voting, I would use YouTube views (complete and human and not on repeat etc) and Spotify streams and iTunes sales. And I would have an online scoreboard, updated hourly with voting status. So people could see the race.

O agree that Adam would be perfect hosting a late late night talk and entertainment show. He's so smart and funny and engaging. And yes, he could sing on every episode. He's got so much talent that hasn't been tapped yet. I hope it all gets discovered and USED! 😉There is already a show like that on called The Late, Late Show with James Corden. Don't think anyone will do another anytime soon. I enjoyed, for the most part, the Xfactor AU format. It was too rushed but the mix of emphasis on both the talent and the judges was good, the inclusion of the mentoring and judge/talent interactions was entertaining. Sort of a blend of Idol and the Voice. There is also Late Night with Seth Meyers in the same time slot. But these are both network programs. Just my dream -- and I don't need to be realistic -- I want a cable or HBO show so there are close to no limits. Or on one of the streaming service -- like the new YouTube TV channels. They are starting with 40 network channels but promised investors original programming at some point.

OT, but just read James Durbin is the new front man for Quiet Riot. Know nothing about the band and wasn't too fond of him (due to the things he said about Adam) but I guess this is the third Idol alum to front a legacy band. I think Adam is the only one though that already had and still has a successful solo career in addition. Quiet Riot is an American heavy metal band. They had a #1 album in the US in 1983 -- according to Wiki it is certified 6XP. They were formed in 1973 but no one from that vintage is still in the band. Only the drummer was there at their peak in 1983. James is their 7th vocalist. Here is the current lineup and they years they were active in the band. Current members Frankie Banali – drums, percussion (1982–1989, 1993–2003, 2004–2007, 2010–present) Chuck Wright – bass, backing vocals (1985–1987, 1994–1997, 2004–2006, 2007, 2010–present) Alex Grossi – guitar, backing vocals (2004–2006, 2007, 2010–present) James Durbin – lead vocals (2017–present) Their music is a good fit for James. They play some lower level arenas with other metal bands -- like they are playing Toledo with with Cheap Trick, Warrant, and 7 others bands. They mostly play smaller venues and casinos. About the same level as Adam as a solo artist. Not Queen but it seems like a really good gig for James. ETA: And they are releasing a new album recorded with the singer they just fired after only 7 months, Seann "Tarsha" Nichols, who they now are saying was karaoke and their third choice and so on. Pretty nasty IMO.

I don't really know anyone under about 50 that watches much tradional television anymore. Last thing I watched was the Late Late Show when QAL was on and prior to that the World Series. Geez, with two televisions and two TiVo I'm wasting a lot of money on cable that I don't use....time to call the cable company.

I can never understand people who don't watch Idol or don't like Idol saying they are glad it's over or hope it is not coming back! That'd be like me saying, "OMG! I am so happy Game of Thrones is over!" I don't watch Game of Thrones! TV has a wonderful on/off feature. One gets to watch what they like and ignore the rest! I thought about this. May be it's a "can't deal with the hopes and dreams anymore in terms of Adam being properly recognized". I am thinking of the emotional investment in Adam through Idol, the drama surrounding the finals during season8, the almost annual discussion of him being a judge or not, or if/when/what he will perform and how it will turn out. Those things have led to some angst (and letdowns) within the fandom and some probably don't want to revisit it (even though Idol brought Adam back year after year in various formats). I think it has less to do with the choice of watching another reality show or not. I can only speak for myself, but if Idol was brought back and Adam was involved somehow, I would be the first person to turn on the TV and watch it haha. I really liked the last season. And I loved(!) X-Factor Australia.

I also included a full-ride scholarship to a state university or music conservatory so that Idol could focus on young talent and maybe find a future star but also give the winner a realistic alternate path to success. I could also get behind Q3's suggestions on page 5 which would increase viewer participation and maybe get a younger viewing audience involved.

Got to say that my memories of James Durbin are not that fond due to his comments about Adam after Idol.
