melliemom homophobia is probably a part of the issue but I don't think it's the only one...here in Germany Ghost town and Whataya want from me were big hits and played quite a fair bit!...Adam is not "mainstream" in the sense, that he doesn't play it safe like Sams Smith for example...who also had a big hit with Stay with me...heck it took Bieber until "Love yourself" to get a song on German radio!!!...and he came up around the same time as Adam 2009/2010ish

IMO, we can't claim homophobia with radio. Otherwise, WWFM and GT would not have done so well, actually IIHY too. Remember, era 2, almost ruined Adam's career with poor choices by RCA. A lesser talented artist could have been sunk permanently. Era 3 was almost like starting all over, as far as radio goes! 5 years between WWFM/IIHY and GT! I am confident that both WBR and Adam will build on GTs success. I have very very very good feelings about era 4. Also, radio isn't everything. Getting on Spotify playlists is the wave of the future! We have to really work on fans to stream constantly. IDK why so many fans are resistant.

To be sure, homophobia isn't the only factor in a gay artist's success, or lack thereof. But I think it still plays a part, consciously or unconsciously. A gay artist is still somehow "apart." It's a compromise that artists choose to make at different levels. Sam Smith chooses not to be overtly "gay sexual" in public. But Adam does, as we see in who he associates with and where he chooses to socialize publicly. If Adam is paying a price for this, it's his choice. He can't turn back the clock and begin again as a "non-public" gay man. That ship has sailed. World-wide, Adam seems to have acceptance and a strong fanbase. I think the US still has homophobic issues, more than many other countries. And that fact shows up in Adam's struggles to get airplay and to break through on the Billboard charts.

That was aired last year already somewhere I think. Italy ❤ Adam Lambert @italylovesadam We found the english version on youtube if someone is interested @adamlambert www.youtube.com/watch?v=csrc4emTDNYBoy they are not kind on PR LOL. Basically PR ruined and nearly ruined Queens legacy. And Adam restored the bands legacy and reputation. Adam allowed Queen to perform in stadiums and areas they never thought were possible. Quite incredible really. Imagine if Adam never watched Wayne's World. Brian never approved release of Bohemian Rhapsody. Exposing Queen to a major US audience. Adam would of never most likely sang BR in his idol audition. Would of never performed with them on the idol finalie. And one of the most succesfull if not the most succesful collab in music history would of never happened. I think Talon and Q3 said before that QAL performed in the same size arena/stadiums that QPR were.

While I agree that the success of WWFM, IIHY and GT show that he has been embraced by a large percentage of radio, was there not a recent interview where he admitted that there have definitely been barriers for him? It started a discussion here IIRC. I'm blanking on which recent interview it was though. Also, there is the matter of the entire Cumulus Block of radio stations (known to be conservatively held) refusing to add until his songs were falling down the charts. WWFM could have and should have been an even bigger hit than it was, had they added when the song was ascending.
