Potential role--- who knows what that means. But IF NOT a judge, what is left? There is Scott's Borchetta's past role as an advisor to the contestants re song choice, singing, performance style. A person in that role does get air time, but I would think it is a much greater commitment time wise. If the ship goes down, well a star like Katy Perry is not bad company to be with. As I am not familiar with ALL these reality shows in different countries and the judges. Can anyone name one star whose career was damaged by their involvement? Nothing rings a bell for me other than some blips for Paula Abdul re the ditzy label/jokes, and takng a bit of time to set up her next working gig. Nope none. I get their are reservations about the show coming back. But anyone becoming a judge on it, for even a season. Their are more pros then cons. Exposure, Publicity, Oppurtunities out of it, cred e.t.c. Adam would get all of it. Be a big boost to his career. Do it for a year, sign off and go on his solo tour. At this stage "Potential Role". Doesen't scream Adam well be a judge. But it seems Idol are considering him.

There are a number of other possibilities than AI Judge. Adam could be a mentor for a week. Or a performance coach. Or he could do some kind of bootcamp like he did with Daugherty. Etc. Etc. I am not on and not getting on this roller-coaster. They fooled me too many times before.

UGGHH. I doubt that the third spot will be offered to Adam. May be Daughtry is deemed more successful as a recording artist and "safe" (aka less controversial). melliemom , I can't imagine that Adam wouldn't move heaven and earth to be a judge (unless there was a major change in his disposition). Let's see what happens...there is still a mentoring position to be filled I guess, but my level of excitement is going down right now. Disney/ABC is very gay-friendly and would have no issue with Adam not being "safe." Disney has many, many LGBT+ executives -- for decades. And Adam recently starred in ABC's greatest hits special. So the network has no issue with him being "unsafe." They are almost certainly focused on two things -- ratings Chris Daugherty did -- and Chris is not doing a lot right now. Daugherty is promotion a greatest hits album and touring supporting Nickelback. So judging Idol would be great for him.

Well if Daughtry is a judge, well that definately rules out Adam. You would think Adam would be a better option then Daughtry. But what do I know. Adam may be a mentor e.t.c.

The Chris Daughtry will be a judge story is from US Weekly who is often wrong. Shirley Halperin is very well connect to Freemantle Media [Idol owner] and to many former Idol contestant. As of her last report (7 hours ago) she wrote, "Variety has also learned that “Idol” alum Carrie Underwood has held talks with ABC and producers about joining “American Idol” as a judge. In addition, Adam Lambert’s name has been in the mix for a potential role, sources confirm. Reports out of the U.K. claim Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has also been approached for a judge spot, but a representative for the singer tells Variety there’s “absolutely no truth to this.” Ditto, it seems, for reports that Chris Daughtry is coming aboard the panel. An insider says the Season 5 graduate has not been contacted as of yet." "Daughtry is, however, on ABC’s wish list of “Idol” alums to potentially perform at Tuesday’s upfront. Lambert, Kellie Pickler, and Fantasia Barrino are also being considered for the presentation gig."I am very interested in the bold part. *** If they have signed Chris Daughtry, it does not preclude Adam IMO. I am happy to wait and see what they announce tomorrow.

(I am just trying to make sense of this agony...Adam seems the obvious choice to be a judge unless my sense of reality is distorted. I understand that Adam has made appearances on ABC since the fallout in 2009, but what's going on? I know...lots of things can be going on)

Apparently Chris is not confirmed. He is one they are considering for the gig. Adam is the other. Well know more tommorro. Potential Katy, Chris, Adam. I think could work.

I was thinking the permanent mentor role like Borchetta too would be a good match for Adam, or taking on the host gig if they can't get Seacrest. I do hope they do a bit of re imagining and do more behind the scenes. Save

Daughtry's tour with Nickelback is this year. Idol will do nothing for that. The Greatest Hits album is already old. If they got Chris to judge, IMO, it is because he was cheaper than Adam or Adam is not available!
