Savage Garden's Darren Hayes on Behind-The-Scenes Reactions to His Coming Out, Admiring Michael Jackson & Adam Lambertwww.billboard.com/articles/news/pride/7834056/savage-garden-darren-hayes-coming-out-reactions-interviewWhat do you think was the most groundbreaking event in pop culture that has helped this shift towards LGBTQ acceptance since 2000?Adam Lambert on American Idol. Hands down. He smashed down the door of the closet. I loved Adam’s image. It was an extension of his sexuality. It was bold and unapologetically theatrical. He expressed himself loudly, dramatically, and did not give a damn whether it was palatable to conservative values. I loved that he wore makeup, nail polish and experimented with his hair. He didn’t have to come out because he was never in. I think his success proved you can be out, proud and successful by beginning your career presenting yourself as authentically as possible. I just read that. Wow! Great article. There are still some difficulties, even tho some will not admit it, but I'm grateful that things have changed for the better. Hopefully even more barriers will come down. Tho it did hurt to read that some executives laughed at Ricky Martin because it reminds me of the way some DJ's in my area mocked Adam early in his career. Nice to read that Darren like us is proud of Adam.

What wonderful words and recognition of Adam's huge contribution to greater acceptance in the music world. Easy to forget how brave Adam was then, in being so fearlessly true to himself. He supports so many others in their search for a place and acceptance; nice to see his impact recognised in this way....

This whole article is a good read! His story is so sad and still he stayed so strong! In High school (or the equivalent of that in the Netherlands) I was very into Savage Garden and liked their music a lot! Got both their albums and 2 of their singles. My first single was Truly Madly Deeply! There is a YT in the article of the song 'Crash and Burn'. The YT in the article is however only view able in the US. Here is the 'rest of the world' version (except New Zealand it seems): www.youtube.com/watch?v=W60IPexop30This got me through some heart brake back then!
