Queen And Adam Lambert Wow Audiences On European Leg Of Their World Tour
It has been two years since Queen and Adam Lambert have toured, and based on the epic spectacle witnessed by a sell-out O2 crowd on Wednesday night it was well worth the wait. Brian May, Roger Taylor and Adam Lambert have been on tour for the last few months, and they are closing out the UK and European leg of the tour with three London shows and one final night in Birmingham, before heading out on tour again early next year with their Oceania leg taking in New Zealand and Australia.
Fans were treated to over 2 hours of Queen memories, with Lambert as the perfect frontman. His theatricality, charisma, and pure vocal magic make him the ideal person to help keep Queen and their amazing back catalogue alive, and allow fans old and new to keep rocking. As Lambert himself said he isn’t trying to be Freddie Mercury, no one can truly replace him, but the spirit of Mercury is alive and well in Lambert. It is also clear that Taylor and May have become close to Lambert, with May calling Lambert a “gift from God” and the respect Lambert shows May and Taylor shows that the band is in safe hands, and that Mercury is never far from their thoughts, and that is a beautiful thing. The spirit of Mercury was definitely in the O2 this week, and one can only imagine it is the same every night.
The show is as glitzy as one would expect from a band full of showmen, but the stage is still simple and the lighting effects are truly amazing – the rainbow laser show during “Who Wants to Live Forever” was stunning, along with spectacular use of videos including Freddie on a number of the songs.
The whole show was non stop but highlights included “We Will Rock You”, “Fat Bottomed Girls” and “We Are The Champions”. Watching Adam Lambert rise out of the stage on Frank the Robot Head singing “Killer Queen” with the perfect level of camp and pure talent was one of the parts of the show we were looking forward to most and boy he didn’t fail to deliver. “Bicycle Race” was another spectacle, the sight of Adam Lambert riding a tricycle around the stage was glorious.
