Just finished watching the Elvis documentary on HBO...3 1/2 hours. From time to time I would see something that would remind me of Adam. They showed Elvis riding in the car with those same sunglasses with the EP between the eyes that Adam and the others wore in that Shades of Elvis Book. They used the word "authentic" when referring to the period in the 1970s when he was making all those movies and soundtracks and said that period wasn't authentic and Elvis was unhappy. When Elvis would return to his So Gospel roots....that's where his authenticity resided and what made him happiest....along with the connection and response from a live audience. They showed lots of the interior of Graceland....I toured it when I was in town for the Idol Tour....and Adam toured it the day before I did. Overall I enjoyed it, but it left me sad. I learned a few things that I didn't know. The documentary wasn't very flattering to Colonel Parker. I didn't realize he wasn't a US citizen and didn't want Elvis to perform outside the US because he was afraid he wouldn't be let back in. In those last years Elvis wanted to tour the world....he never got to perform live outside the US. In 1971 and 72 he did like 160+ shows per year.
