Not a fan of Sam, so I know nothing about him, but every time I see a pic like that I always think "he tries too hard".
That's the first thing that always comes to mind, not sure why.
And an almost belated Happy Mother's Day to everyone, including the mommas to furbabies.
Missing especially my daughter who lives in Japan...haven't seen her in over 2 years sigh.

Not everyone, namely SS. Was as comfortable, or as brave as Adam was. To come out to the public right off the bat. Take Adams performance at the Amas in 2009 for instance. He diddn't do it for some self-Gratifying reason. IT was not selfish. He was making an artistic statement. And be damned to any mainstream acceptance he might of lost in the states. That is what drew me to Adam in 2009. I thought hell that was Bold. I think Adam opened the door, and it made it alot easier for mainstream LGBT artists. Like Sam, and Troy e.t.c. But their is no right or wrong way to do it.

“Adam was also "out" but not to everyone”
Adam was out to everyone before his first single and album came out.

“Adam was also "out" but not to everyone” Adam was out to everyone before his first single and album came out. You're right, of course. I stand corrected.

So Queen was never able to perform IWIA live? Wow. I never realized that. That song is now an exquisite showpiece for QAL. That incredible "Call and Response" that Adam and Brian do just before they kick into the song like a stick of dynamite is a perfect combination. It really packs a punch. It's one of the highlights of the show, IMO. Performing that song live is just one more example of how Adam's voice and presence with Queen is so amazing. No other singer could deliver that song like Adam can. His voice is no powerful and it delivers the message of the song so perfectly. Some things were just meant to be. IN the golf shirt interview, Adam was asked who could stand in for him with Queen were he to suddenly get sick. After some thought he suggested Lady Gaga and Pink. But, he couldn't name a single male singer. I can't either. Not performance wise, not charisma wise, and absolutely not vocally. On one of Adam's "The Show Must Go On" videos, several commented that the version by some singer I've never heard of named Dimash was way better than Adam's (I googled him and some people think he has the best voice in the world, 5 octaves) and on a couple of other videos, some person is saying some Korean singer is better than Adam on Queen songs. Of singers I've heard of, I've read comments that Brendan Urie and Mika would have been better than Adam. However, I have no interest in listening to any one of these other singers to compare to Adam. Even if one surpassed Adam vocally (which is very hard to believe), I could not see them having the combination of other qualities Adam has, such as his vocal versatility, stamina, stage presence, charisma/personality, dancing skills, and drop-dead gorgeous looks.

But Sam did not “Come Out” until Stay With Me was a hit. And according to his OG fans, really toned it down until recently. Some think he purposely made himself bland, which was NOT the way he was before hitting it big. He was out but not OUT. ITA. He has actually admitted that he tried to be clever about pronouns in songs and his appearance. *** And he is def less edgy and sexy than Adam. Setting aside Adam's sexual orientation, it is hard to think of any current male performer or actor who is so openly sexual on stage. Woman -- many of them. Men -- ?? Justin Bieber and Harry Styles win fan polls for sexiest singers but seriously! I just can't think of anyone except Prince. And Prince really toned it down when he was on TV vs. live performances. There are some performers from the 1950's -- like Elvis -- but who else? ETA - And Sam's PR team did that stupid tabloid linkage to Daisy Lowe in 2014 -- similar to the RCA PR team putting Adam with Keshia. In both cases, Sam and Adam did not play along.

Your last sentence says it perfectly. It's not just about the voice. It's about a combination of factors that come together perfectly. Someone who has ALL those traits is very rare and Adam has them all. Brian and Roger could have chosen from a whole bunch of really good singers. But they chose Adam because he was the whole package. And they love him as a person. That means a lot.

Urie and Mika are outstanding vocalists. Not that I think they possess Adams richness and tone imo. But Adam brings other qualities his detractors just don't consider as important. ITs not just the singing. Freddie was prob the greatest vocalist of all time. But it was not just that. He had great stage presence, he was very charismatic. Had a great sense of humor. Adam has all these qualities. He also has a chemistry with Brian and Roger you just can't manufacture. Hence why their was no one else for Brian and Roger.
All respect to vocalists like Brendon Urie, Mika, Martel e.t.c. Their is no one in the music scene today who could of done what Adam did with Queen in 2012 in Kiev in front of 100k plus crowd. It was just instant. It was instant in 2009 on idol. It was then instant in 2013 at IHR. And it has just evolved since then. Adam is always on the edge, he lives his life like that. He is so polarizing, particularly to the rock community. But for the few that dislike Adam, their is also thousands, millions more that love him.

Adam was out at the beginning of his career and before he had anything on the radio. And with all the publicity about his sexuality, while on Idol, I doubt there were too many who did not know. It was talked about on tv and in the media even if not on the actual show. Hell, people were encouraging people to vote against him because he was gay. But at this point in his career, I don't think he has to prove anything to anyone. He is who he is and has said as much. And he is a great role model for his community. I just want his music to get great exposure based on his enormous talent. I think he has earned that without any qualifications like the "best gay pop or rock artist." Many of the out singers are not doing that great now. Even Sam seems to be struggling some. It is really unsettling that even with so many out artists, they are not making much progress with radio. The only one doing really well is Halsey. And to me, she is more like Adam. She speaks her mind when needed and represents her community well. But she is not trying so hard to be shocking and show how out there she is. She lets her talent and success do the talking. Everyone knows who she is and her sexuality is not hidden nor is it there for anyone's entertainment.
And don't care who else could be the Queen frontman cause Adam is the one they chose.

I read comments about Dimash or Urie or Mika. It seems to me that the main criterion for 'greatness' is the ability to sing ultra high notes. If I made a list of the top 10 characteristics of a great singer/performer, I don't think ultra high notes would even make it. Yes, it is a rare ability, but not a stand alone quality for me. I care much more about when and why those high notes are used in service to the intent and emotion of the song. I care about the tonal quality and consistency of those notes. The apparent ease with which they are sung.
Adam's range boggles my mind; I cannot lie. But, I am totally happy to listen to him execute a song impeccably and emotionally without any glory notes. For example, Mad World was hauntingly beautiful even tho the only "high" note he executed was the very last one, which he confessed later was actually a mistake. "Love Kills" and "Save Me" also touch high notes very sparingly. We don't miss them. We are carried away with the beautiful tone, color and emotion.
