I guess since Gaga is performing Shallow on the Oscars, she wanted a totally different spin on it for the Grammys. Doesn’t mean it was successful, but I’d guess that was the reasoning.

In the case of a Grammy-nominated song, I think it's wise for a singer to perform the song exactly the way the fans have heard it. Gaga made a mistake, IMO, by changing it up too much and actually ruining it for a lot of people. We all knw she's a risk-taker, but this risk didn't pan out. It's a lovely song. I think she should have left it the way people love it. lurleene, I totally agree with you about Adam getting his music in the alt rock or rock categories. He is long over-due for recognition by the Grammys. I know he has one nom so for. But with the voice he has, he deserved to be rewarded. I know, I know. He needs some HITS. That goes without saying. Maybe he'll get some radio play this time around. But you're right about getting him in those other categories for award noms. He's been overlooked far too long. It's SO frustrating year after year to see him not included in these awards. Of course, there are many well-deserving people who win. But he is known for his amazing vocals, so the time must come at some point. IT DOES MATTER when it comes to your over-all cred. It's got to be frustrating for him, too. And yes, Rickey Martin and Timberlake have kind of out-grown the still surrounded by throngs of dancers is a little dated, at least for them. But that is the thing, in alt and rock you don't really need the big hits to get nominated or win. You just need to be on the radar, radio and talked about. It is not like with pop where you have to have mega hits now to even be considered. That is unless you are Kelly Clarkson and you get a nomination all the time , tho, your music is not selling big or getting the massive radio play required of the others. I just want to see Adam in the mix before too much time passes and I don't see how he can get there in pop. So what determines what category your music is put in?

Just scanning various news sites this morning to see what's happening in the world, not looking specifically for music news, I noticed many positive headlines about Gaga's performance. So, some people really liked it, thought she was amazing and innovative.
On another note, here is a quote from H.E.R. from an interview after her nominations, but before the award show, that pertains to the importance of streaming:
Q: You also come from a streaming background — building buzz and a fan base on SoundCloud more than, say, the radio. Do you think the industry is catching up to these scenes?
A: Oh, absolutely. I’m selling out every single one of my shows on this tour — 3,000, 4,000 people a night — with no radio single. I think sometimes we build a stronger base when it comes to streaming. People are singing all the words to every song. That’s how we receive music nowadays — it’s Apple Music, it’s YouTube, Tidal, whatever. It’s playlists. Being put on those playlists is more important than being put on the radio. Some people can have a No. 1, but can’t sell 200 tickets. It’s really powerful to have a strong base that genuinely loves the music and plays it over and over again.
Often the people who build a fan base via soundcloud and streaming put out individual songs quite frequently rather that waiting for a group of songs to come together for an album. I wouldn't mind hearing new Adam songs on a frequent basis like that...

My guess is it would be a label thing and the artist. We have seen rock and alt rock artists who get their music played on those stations but their labels also push them to top 40 and HAC for maximum exposure. Heck even Sam Smith"s "Stay With Me" charted on top 40 and HAC but also rock and rhythmic. Ed. Lorde. Twenty One Pilots. Fall Out Boy. Imagine Dragon. Portugal the Man a rock band had a #1 on Rock, top 40, HAC and was played on Rhythmic. Panic at the Disco is considered rock and they have a #1 on top 40 and HAC and Rock. I mean is Adam music really that different yet he is always limited to top 40 and HAC and trying to compete with the Diva's and young pop men. But he has said his music is taking a different vibe so I am hopeful that there will be growth and expansion and better opportunities for him if he has a label and I hope he does.

On another topic, the other day I was looking at Netflix and Prime to see if something interested me and noticed an old (early 2000's) tv show that I remembered from back then. I was curious about what the main actors had been doing since, so looked them up.
One actor had been a regular on several different shows over the years, 3 years here, 6 there, 2 years on another, and a few more shows, some current, plus some movie roles, directing, producing. I noticed that he had an estimated net worth of $10 million.
I know the celebrity net worth type websites, and even the Forbes list, are notorious for being wrong in their estimates. However, I thought that perhaps they might give some idea of relative amounts, such as person A being worth half of what person B is worth even if the amounts were not accurate.
With that in mind I thought, hmm, an actor with decades of success, although not breaking through to the very top ranks, is estimated at having half the net worth that Adam is listed as having.
This led me to looking up more actors and musicians who have a good level of success and recognition, but haven't made it to the very highest levels of financial success. I was amazed that Adam's estimated net worth is more than many, many people who have been around longer and have more secure places within the genre in which they act or sing.
My conclusion was that Queen must pay really well ! We knew that, but the comparisons really highlighted that for me. Also it made me think that tv, although offering more exposure, may not pay as well as touring with Queen.
Just some random musings-

This is an extremely important chunk of information from H.E.R. It sounds like one very viable option for Adam. I sometimes wonder what kinds of discussions he is having with his label with his management. Because when he does well, they do well. The whole access to music has changed so much. I have to believe that Adam and the people he works with are looking at all viable options to get his music out there to make money and get him maximum exposure. The days of buying LPs and CDs is over. We better get our streaming devices ready for maximum effectiveness when his new music comes out.

I agree. Adam has done well and much better than many. His net worth before Queen was listed as 10M and now it is up to 20M. But they always lag behind and that last reporting did not include what he made on the last European Queen tour and Vegas so it is probably more like 25M+ now.

You would think that Adam's "people" would be actively looking at where he best belongs in these music categories. It can make the difference between Grammy or NO Grammy. And that can really change how you are perceived in the music industry. You can have the best voice in the universe, but sometimes a statuette or two can get you the cred when your voice alone cannot. It will be interesting to see where his music lands up, radio-wise, exposure-wise, category-wise.

If his net worth BEFORE QUEEN was listed as 10M, I think that's damn good. And QAL has given him money and fame beyond measure. I know he must think now and then about his career post-QAL. It could happen at any time. I assume he will work as hard as ever to keep making music and adapting as the need arises. He's just so damn talented. I hope he can diversify into acting, TV, whatever. He's a joy to behold in anything he does.
