lurleen, I am totally onboard with what you are saying about the radio play dilemma. To me, the most significant sentence in your above post is" "People may think radio is not important, but it is important and useful to those artists who can get it." That means radio play IS important because it gives certain artists an immense boost in exposure to the GENERAL public who are often passive receivers of whatever is being played. Streaming is for music that the listeners actively seek out. Playlists are created by the listeners who already know what they want. Downloads and iTunes are pre-selected. But radio reaches listeners who are opening themselves up to whatever comes on the air. They are casual receivers of songs by many artists. Radio is a "discovery medium" much more than a pre-selected playlist is. That's why radio is still relevant. That's why "it's important and useful to those artists who can get it." We have all guessed at the reasons why Adam doesn't get good radio play. It's hard to believe that lingering homophobia could be one of them, but it might be. Lord knows, he's had some great songs that never saw the light of day. Better said than what I said. Good example is Lauren Diagle. She did not go far on Idol but she is on a Christian Label that I have never heard of so I guess she is indie. I would never go near a Christian music station but her song "You Say" crossed over and is played on my HAC station ALL the time. I knew I liked the song but did not know it was her until she just won two Grammy's. She is moving albums and singles like crazy and getting played and heard outside the Christian market. They do what they want and play who they want and it does make a big difference in being heard by others o just by loyal fans. US radio is still very powerful. I don't begrudge anyone a well-deserved Grammy, and I'm sure Lauren deserves hers. I'm just beyond puzzled how someone with Adam's higher profile and amazing talent has never one a Grammy in ten years. I know he has a nom, and that's great. I know I'm just showing my frustrations, but some singers take home Grammys by the armload for reasons that I just can't figure out. It's a head-scratcher for sure. I pray that Adam's day will come. I appreciate everyone's input about the value of streaming and also how these different streaming sites work. I still don't understand it all, but I'm using Spotify as much as possible. I know others here are much more savvy about how to optimize streaming than I am. But I'm doing my best.

Actually 90% of the streamers (don't know the exact number, but it's close) don't make their own playlists, but use a playlist suggested to them by Spotify. So it's Spotify who decides what they listen too. That's why it is so important to get on those big playlists. So instead of Radio deciding your music Spotify does that. I don't see the difference. If you get on those playlists you get exposed to millions of listeners. Most young people don't even listen to the radio anymore, but always stream and use those playlists. I only listen to radio in the car and even then I skip through channels because I can't find the music I like mostly. The nice thing about streaming is that you don't have to listen to the nonsense most radio folks talk about and also not to any commercials (if you use a premium account at least). So if I understand this correctly, I go to my Spotify page and the songs that are listed there (and I did not choose myself) are my "playlist," right? And those are the ones to play? I play Adam's songs anyway, esp. the current one. I just want to do the most advantageous thing for his numbers. I don't know exactly what you see when you open Spotify, but if you are streaming Adam's music you are doing great!

I have something cute to share, which also happens to involve Adam. A few years ago I worked with Kristen, who was a production assistant at Playboy TV (I was in the law department). She would come by to talk about my production notes, and one time she noticed a picture of Adam on my PC monitor. She said she was dating someone who used to work for Adam. He worked with Dana Collins at Direct Management. I tried to stay cool, but she learned quickly of my obsession, and asked Marc to get me a signed photo and other stuff. I asked her a few questions throughout the years about Adam's life, but we both kept it discreet. She and Marc have since married and moved to Rhode Island to start a senior dog retirement home. I think he also remains the Senior Director for National Mission Advancement, at Best Friends Animal Society. Dana Collins is also involved with Best Friends. Kristen told me that Adam sends Marc little texts all the time, and stays connected, even though they haven't worked together for awhile. Anyway, this was recently in People Magazine. It's about their senior dog retirement home, and it's the cutest story. Enjoy! people.com/pets/senior-dog-separation-anxiety/ Awww thanks for sharing at last your special Adam connection, and thanks for the little bits you've shared. The People article was very cute also, so amazing that the "Marc" mannequin comforted the pooch! You’re welcome! I’m so glad for her and Marc. They’re crazy about dogs and such lovely people. I actually have two other friends with Adam connections. One of them is at Warner Bros Records. I haven’t spoken to her about Adam lately because when Adam left the label she was thinking he’d come to regret his decision, but he’s doing really well going independent, IMO. I had another co-worker at Playboy whose husband worked on lighting for American Idol. Couldn’t get much out of her, but she did tell me they worked extra hard getting Adam’s lighting just right. It’s a small world in LA, and entertainment jobs overlap, so it’s easier to connect with people who know people.

While I want radio and EVERYTHING there is for Adam, I believe that Adam's happiness and freedom to create and express himself in the ways he directs are more important. So I have to believe that what was meant to happen will happen for Adam and for us as fans. As long as I can keep seeing him and hearing him, I'm happy. I don't doubt that everyone here wants happiness and freedom to create for Adam. If he does not want radio play then I guess they won't send it to radio. So there will be no need for me to want that for him. The times that I wanted it for him were when he sent it to radio and wanted play. If that is no longer his goal or desire then I'm on board with whatever he wants. Oh, I think Adam wants radio play! It remains to be seen if he will get it with his upcoming single and how much, fingers crossed for that! But I agree with the idea of streaming him on Spotify (or like service) as much as we all can. Even though I buy his songs on iTunes (and will buy a physical CD and vinyl if offered), I stream on Spotify so that he will get some compensation and build his profile there! I make my own playlists on Spotify, and I do appreciate that they will recommend music I might like based on Adam and others I like.

She has won her Grammy's, AMA's and Billboard awards on the Christian format which is easier to do than some of the more mainstream formats. But good for her people getting her exposure on diverse formats. That would be like Adam getting played on top 40, HAC, Rock and Alt. He might have a better chance on winning in the alt or rock category than on pop. Tho some of the alt and rock acts chart high on top 40 and HAC too but they mostly win in the smaller formats. The pop formats are going to have the same heavy hitters all the time. If he gets radio, I sure hope they don't limit him to the pop and HAC charts like they have in the past. But have no idea if much radio will even be in the cards now. Just hoping for the best for him.
