It would be interesting to find out what attracted him to this particular house...it has the weirdest shape, IMO. Definitely not my style at all. Strange corners jutting out; it reminds me of a house where different owners kept adding on on different sides. My sister has a house like that. The original small house is in the front, then a few different owners added on to the back and to one side of the house. Maybe it's a modern style I'm not aware of. Must be. That house was just built 2 years ago. So there was nothing added. I think, the huge windows, that you can push into the walls, so that the house is completely open to the backyard, are pretty cool. Plus the big parking space (not sure, if he needs that). And Adam is still in the center of West Hollywood. From the outside it has some similarities to his old house. It’s just a much more modern version. So I guess, Adam likes it.

I think I remember reading there is a name for this style of modern architecture....maybe LindaG will know. I do like the pool/backyard of this house because of the view....but the house itself isn't something I would choose.

And it looks like it’s much more convenient in its structure than the old one. There he had to walk long ways from living room to the kitchen ect. That huge room in the center of the house with that huge couch is more or less a walk-through room. It has 6 doors and when Adam doesn’t have a party, it is more or less unused and a waste of space, IMO. Because Adam uses that much smaller room as the living room. On the whole, the structure of that old house is just weird.. now, Adam will have 5 bedrooms. He will be able to host a lot of guests and even use one of these rooms as an extra walk-in closet.

Before I had ever gone to California, I was under the impression that the nicer homes were all on big spacious lots. But after a few visits to the LA area, I learned that the homes are packed pretty densely, even the higher-end homes. (And in LA, Adam's homes are not in the really "high end" category. So I'm not surprised that Adam has close neighbors. When you see an aerial view of his neighborhood or similar neighborhoods, the houses are quite close together.
Location is everything, as they say in the real estate business. Adam wants to live in a house that is convenient to where he wants to go, shop, and socialize. This new house seems to have a better layout than the other one, although we haven't really seen it all. Looks like he'll able to entertain easily and be close to everything that is important to him.
Sure hope he an find a buyer for the old house! Maybe he has one at this point.

I do like the pool/backyard of this house because of the view....but the house itself isn't something I would choose. I'm flattered that you think I might know this but I didn't off-hand, so I did a little research. It would appear that the term modern or modernist refers to the various styles prevalent broadly in the mid-20th century. Adam's current house would definitely be considered modern with both Art Deco (the formerly glass block rounded exterior windows) and Brutalist (heavy monotone concrete walls) influences. Adam's new house is Contemporary, which sounds like a catch-all term to me, but in my quick search I didn't find applicable sub-genres. The two styles share characteristics of clean simple lines, open interiors, and simple geometric forms. But I think contemporary design is more approachable. This reference defined five basic features: 1. Unconventional materials 2. Bright, open interiors 3. Flat roofs 4. Geometric simplicity 5. Harmony with nature smithbrothersconstruction.com/five-main-features-of-contemporary-architecture-and-why-we-love-it/And svca, it's funny that you should mention "strange corners jutting out" because my progeny and I have this ongoing discussion about how they hate all the large sections randomly sticking out in new construction around Austin. The style is basic cantilevering but sometimes taken to the extreme. It can look off balance if not done well, but when done well I love it! In Adam's new house, the front right side has a lovely cantilever. To conclude, I love contemporary architecture. It is the one I always choose in Buzzfeed quizzes.

I think the other house was more Art Deco [my favorite style period] and this moves more towards Modern I think. I am no expert but Art Deco period is notable for clean lines but corners etc were al rounded off...so the arched openings between rooms etc. A somewhat feminine aesthetic that modernists changed for sharp lines more open concepts....I think...no expert here at all... eta...I edited my post to comment that lindag and I were posting at the same time...and my edit pouffed away...I just noted that I popped off the first thing in my head and linda was far more credible and did the research...

LindaG23, thanks for the explanation. I think I'm with your progeny lol, all those weird corners hurt my brain. I like a more geometric, even design. Of course, my ideal house would be a old fashioned ranch style, complete with the wrap around porch. It's no wonder that Adam's house doesn't work for me.
