One difference I noticed in elections in the US opposed to elections in Germany. Today I saw a big article about Pete in our newspaper, second page. Big picture. Pete, his husband and of course the dog. Americans seem to want/need that family picture with a dog and the family appears in the back smiling at public events; in Germany a lot of people don't know that Angela Merkel is married. Just something I noticed although maybe it's not bad to have an impression of the family and know who you're voting for just like you're not just marrying the spouse but the whole family...at least that's the saying in Germany lol. The difference from my POV is "Persönlichkeitswahl" vs. "Parteienwahl", meaning that in the US the personal life of a candidate is way more focused on and scrutinized than in Germany. A dog in the picture is "helpful" it seems, as it makes for a complete and happy family which appears to be a high value in the states. In Germany, politics and the agenda of the political party that the candidate represents (Parteiprogramm) are way more in the forefront. I have lived in both countries equally long and I see a striking difference.

On my visit to Paris and Normandie several years ago,I stopped by the Notre Dame Cathedral to attend Mass. Such a beautiful Sunday afternoon,and although the historic edifice was filled with tourists, once the ritual began, people lowered their voices, and a somber reverence for the service that was about to begin, made me feel like I was in a simple neighborhood church in my hometown. And the simplicity of it all, made its magnificence shine brighter. It was the first thing I saw this morning--the centuries old structure in flames. A heartbreaking sight ---but then I noticed a gathering of onlookers, a short distance from the horrific fire,softly singing AVE MARIA, and that solemnly beautiful song {one of my favorites} uplifted my spirit and overshadowed the deep sadness for at least a few moments. It made me realize once again....What do we do when we are so in love we can hardly breathe? What helps us through when we are bored or lonely? What distracts us from daily worries and concerns? What accompanies us when we just want to dance our cares away? What do we turn to when we want to rock our little ones to slumber? What do we need when we take to the streets to march in celebrations? And what do our souls call out for in times of the deepest anguish and sorrow???? MUSIC, of course. I hope the lovely song echoing through the streets of Paris today,gave some solace to all who live there--and to people all over the world fortunate enough to have been there or hold the cathedral dear to their hearts. And may the firefighter who was injured be well again soon. This is why I'm still here, after 10 years---MUSIC has been a gift I've treasured all my life. And Adam has made that gift greater and more sustaining through all my life experiences,than I ever could have imagined. Each and every day, I hope he knows what JOY he brings--and I hope that JOY is returned to him in abundance. People of France, your precious Lady will rise again.

The musical biopic based on the career trajectory of Queen and frontman Freddie Mercury has surpassed the $1 billion mark with $1,088,018,915 at the worldwide box office as of April 14, according to IMDb Pro.
That is a very sudden jump to 1 billion, after it took quite a while to 'crawl' from 850 mil to 900. I wonder whether that is a China update that has finally has come in, or whether a lot of other countries together have resulted in this sudden jump.
Given that they say 'box office', this should not be a jump due to digital sales tallies, so that number should be separate.
I want to see a few other sources confirm that before I quite believe that most recent jump. But either way, quite a return on investment on the original 55 mil spent. The online discussions, whether this movie would be able to make any profit at all, are less than 6 months old. They read kind of comical today.
And in the end, what a proof that Brian and Roger were so right in their insistence to take the movie in the direction they did, rather than letting all kinds of fractions dictate the outcome with their individual agendas.
What a ride it has been, and it is not over yet.
==========
In complete change of topic, but due to current events.
My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Paris too. This city is shaken a lot these days. This was hard to watch today, and yes, the people's faces as well as the moment when that steeple fell, reminded me very much of 9/11 too. I hope, that much can be rebuilt or that some of the inside artifacts have miraculously survived. We will probably hear some about it soon.

Saw some Taylor Swift news ...most likely a release on April 26. No need for Adam to rush to conflict with that release...lol
Hanging on for May.
Very heartfelt message Lorraine. 💓Appreciate you posting your thoughts/words.
