Ratings Breakdown: In the specials department, ABC’s “The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story” was on the overnight map with a 4.1 rating/7 share from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that was just 15 percent below dominant “The Voice” on NBC (4.9/ 8) and on par with recent levels for “American Idol” in the time period.
Someone in yesterday's thread asked about the timing of the special. Why now? Good question, and I don't know the answer, but IMO the timing is fortuitous even though the North American tour is, for all intents and purposes, sold out. The audience for the Rhapsody Tour will be different from those for the more recent tours due to the presence of new Queen fans from the movie. Those people will still be in the "honeymoon phase" of their fandom, completely enamored of Freddie, and likely know little or nothing of Adam's history with the band. Prime "He's no Freddie" people. I hope some of them watched the special and will walk into those concerts with more understanding and appreciation for what Adam brings to the band - and that it is due to Adam that they will have the opportunity to see Queen at all.

QUEEN drummer Roger Taylor has revealed how he discovered Adam Lambert as a new singer who could take on Freddie Mercury’s vocals.
When Freddie Mercury died in 1991, it was clear that no one could replace the iconic Queen singer. Nevertheless, this didn’t stop the band collaborating with vocalists, all the while being careful not to label them as Freddie’s replacement. From 2004-2009, Brian May and Roger Taylor worked with Paul Rodgers, before forming Queen + Adam Lambert in 2011. Ahead of a new ABC documentary on the partnership that aired in the US last night, Taylor took part in an interview promoting the film on Good Morning America.
Taylor revealed how the rest of Queen thought the band was done after Freddie’s death. However, he admitted that everything since, and especially discovering Lambert, was “fate unfolding.”
The Queen drummer even recalled how he discovered the singer when watching American Idol in 2009.
Taylor said: “A friend of mine called me up and said, ‘I’ve just seen the most amazing singer on American Idol.’
“I checked it out and [Lambert] was singing Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin and just blowing it away. Fantastic.”
In fact, Taylor was so blown away that Queen contacted American Idol and asked to be on the show so they could try performing with Lambert.
The drummer continued: “We got in touch, and we were then asked to do the finale of Idol, which we flew over to do with the two finalists and we just got on magically with Adam.”
Following the performance, Lambert did the occasional show with Queen in 2011, before beginning to tour in 2012.
Taylor added: “It sort of grew into touring and we found this magical partnership that works beautifully.”
Queen + Adam Lambert embark on The Rhapsody Tour from July this year, travelling the world until February 2020.
The North American dates this summer managed to sell out this month, while there’s no sign of any UK dates on this tour.
The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story is yet to have a UK air date announced.
"Beauty leads to attraction, but intelligence leads to love!"
I can't wait to see what they have planned for the release of Adam's single. If they let these two wonderful days pass without one, they must have something grand in the works.
I loved the documentary but the AMA part brought tears to my eyes. It was such a hard time of fearing for his career. That time was a reminder of all the awful "madam" slurs that were hurled at him and non-fans or fans of others just wanting him to fail. But that part did not last too long and I was back to grinning and watching the Queen front man strut his stuff. I hope a lot of people who dismissed him got the chance to see how far he has come, if they did not already know. Adam is a class act and deserves all the respect and success that has come him way. And the love that Brian and Roger have for him is overwhelming. This was one of the best documentaries that I have seen. So well put together. And if they wanted a Jonas brother in the the doc. I'm glad it was Joe. He looked absolutely thrilled that time he met Adam.

atomom: Adam's artistry is in full display: the surprise of hiccuppy gasps right before "new eyes", the sensuous tongue, one-two punch of "damn" smile, head thrown back, body drops to heavy guitar beats, a lusciously looking Adam--all make NE a visual/aural feast.
