DIY Artists Will Earn More than $1 Billion This Year. No Wonder the Major Labels Want Their Business If self-releasing artists want to take their career to the next level, they can partner with companies like EMPIRE, Kobalt’s AWAL, Believe Digital, Ditto Plus or Create Music Group. These firms curate their rosters by handpicking signings, before taking on responsibility for distributing, marketing and promoting their music in the style of a record company. Crucially, they allow artists to retain ownership of their copyrights, i.e., enabling these performers, to all intents and purposes, to remain “unsigned.” A few years ago, Universal launched a TuneCore rival, Spinnup, for self-releasing artists, though it’s fair to say industry discussion, and UMG’s promotion of this initiative, have since gone comparatively quiet. Universal does, though, run two brands — Caroline and the recently acquired InGrooves — that specialize in working with independent artists in a manner similar to EMPIRE and AWAL, taking hot acts who previously self-released, and helping them make more “noise” in the marketplace via major-label-level marketing.www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/diy-artists-will-earn-more-than-1-billion-this-year-no-wonder-the-major-labels-want-their-business-830863/VERY interesting. I hope that whatever entity Adam is associated with, Empire and otherwise, will be the best fit for him to get his music heard and SOLD. Hope a solo tour is in the cards.

@_mamadeb: When Adam said he like the 70s aesthetic, I didn't realize he meant 1770s.
Haha, I'm totally getting an Anne Rice Vampire vibe.

I love the new photo! But to me, the bowtie and 2 broaches on the left seem oddly placed. Anyone have any thoughts on that?. And is that a fur (or fake fur) jacket on his right shoulder. Maybe the left most broach is attached to it. I have no thoughts about the broaches other than added bling for the photo. The fur... I did not see it at first glance when I opened the IG, and I only noticed it once I put my glasses on I strongly assume it's fake, but still it is the only thing about the photo that I could easily do without. (I am curious if Brian likes the pic) My comment about the broaches was not about the presence or absence of the broaches, but rather was about the placement of them in 3D space. The bowtie/broach combo looks to be flush with the end of Adam's chin, a good 3" in front of Adam's collar rather than placed against the collar as a bowtie normally is. And one end of the bowtie appears to touch Adam's left chest while the other end looks to be 4" in front of his right chest, i.e., the bowtie is skewed. The placement in space is what I find strange, not the broaches/bowtie themselves. It makes me wonder if there is some significance to the placement. This reply is not to you in particular, but to the accumulation of comments from several people who seem to have missed my point, which means I did not express it well enough.

Well personally, I like the 1770's vibe much better than the 1970's... Well, both aren’t mine. But as long as the music isn’t from the 1770’s I‘m ok.
