My wife just watched the NE MV for the first time (she was listening to late Bowie albums the hours prior, to give you an idea of her preferences). For the first time in forever, she approved of the music! (did not like the video though) I am quite the happy husband at the moment Really cool!!!

Wow teri63 When I read your post I knew I had to respond. I have been very quiet about this release. Like most of you, I heard it at midnight on the 15th - way too late for me after a stressful day. Literally, (and this is why teri63 post got to me) I responded like Simon did to Ring of Fire. Instead of "what the hell was that", I thought "what the fuck was that". I had old eyes and old ears and almost cried. But a voice inside me said "Trust a bitch" and I let go and went to sleep. I woke up with the realization that it WAS Ring of Fire in another incarnation. The same genius, the same shock, the same transformative energy, the same opening our minds, ears and eyes to other possibilties. And like Ring of Fire put Adam on the map (not that he isn't now - analogies do fail at some point) NE might put him on the radio map as it is genius in so many ways including crossing genres. I love that there is no lid on his creativity. I remember early in some interview he talked about wanting to have a total conception of a project on all levels. And I rememeber after Black and White, Paula's comment on how he was the total package well thought through down to the fashion etc. So the lesson is, as always, Trust a Bitch. What a clever observation!!!! Just like ROF, NE is "left of centerish" and sexy, and it evokes reactions. I bet that those who are still confused with the song due to the video and the "new" sound will come around once Adam performs it live. Can't wait!!!

Haha! I've spent way too long this morning trying to analyze this review. Keeping in mind that I am not necessarily great at literary analysis, I don't think is is necessarily a negative review. He compares his appearance to someone described as "raffish," which can be defined as looking somewhat disreputable or disheveled but in an attractive way. I would have to agree with this and would venture to say that's the look Adam was going for. His description of NE as being a "streamlined strut" doesn't sound negative at all to me, and, as for the 7th Cavalry reference, I'm taking it to mean simply that Adam has diverged from his former musical style and is reemerging armed for a new battle. I definitely fault the reviewer for trying to sound witty to the extent that the review itself is unclear, but even more for the fact that he fails to really tell the reader what he thinks of the song. Maybe like for many of us his jury is out until he listens a few more times? He says that these physical and musical changes were "unexpected," which is obviously exactly what Adam wanted. He thrives on growth through change and vice versa and began his public career on Idol wowing his audiences with unexpected song and apparel choices. I feel like the reviewer was just taken aback by the directional changes and certainly doesn't commit to publicizing an actual opinion if he truly has one. I feel this song is a bit like when Adam did "Ring of Fire" on Idol. It was such a divergence from what was expected and the judge's reviews ranged from Simon thinking it was hideous to Kara being confused to Paula and Randy thinking it was genius. The more I listen, the more genius I think NE is. I think the reviewer might just be feeling like Kara. Randy Travis with Ring of Fire was exactly how I was feeling with Simon and Kara thrown in. The reviewer is perplexed, the home wrecker Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen referred to is a flamboyant British TV home fashions designer & judge and appears to have a bit of Simon's acerbic tongue. Randy Travis was a dick. His own behavior later proved my opinion.

But many (myself included) were not awed by it. I had to step away from it to really appreciated how great the song is. I love NE so much now. My son and his wife like it too. They think it will be a hit. But the video will be a continuation, so I wonder if that means Adam is locked in with how he presents the next song in video. Old man on the party scene is done, I hope, lol.

Streaming. I wonder how many radio execs have actually listened to most of Adam's music. There's some great stuff sprinkled thru his library. I really like NE. The "shuffle" in the background, the guitar solo, the lyrics, the vocals (lol).
