I sort of see two sides of the recent comments made by Brian about Adam’s singing and performance abilities. I remember in some article a few years ago, a reviewer said that Adam could sing circles around Freddie, and another reviewer made a bit more oblique comment about do we even dare ask the biggest question of all? Is he better than Freddie? Of course, these reviews were more local, and the rest of the media did not latch on. But yes, I already felt this round of shows would be different due to the movie. If almost impossible, for Adam at least, Freddie is viewed as even more of a deity than he was before. Personally, I love Adam; I love Freddie. There are some songs I prefer one singing rather than the other, but that doesn’t mean I don’t listen to both singer’s renditions. And naturally, Brian did not compare Adam’s composing abilities to Freddie’s composing abilities or piano and some guitar playing prowess. But I guess the vast majority of people can’t or won’t make those distinctions.
On the other hand, if anybody has, Brian and Roger have earned the right to say such things. I think Brian has his back set, as my aunts used to say after that whole attack he received about the movie. There are plenty, probably most, people who don’t know the side of Brian who will, and very eloquently not only not retreat but who will stand firm and speak loudly. I’m not saying that is what is going to happen here, but it could.
What I want to add is poor South America...people from there ask so politely and frequently for QAL to come there, and indeed, they haven’t been there since Rio if I’m right. I could be wrong, but it seems like they have been to other areas maybe twice since then? I don’t know why.

Brian is speaking his truth. Not slamming Freddie or anyone. Just sharing his perspective. I don't think he should feel he has to censor himself to try to avoid the Adam haters' reaction.
Fact is, in several ways Adam CAN do more than Freddie could. Vocally, he has impeccable technique and impressive versatility. He can sing a remarkable range of genres convincingly. (And, no, Freddie could NOT sing opera. He wanted to. He loved opera. He sang with an opera star. He couldn't convincingly sing opera music.) Adam does have a wider range, note wise, than I have heard from Freddie live. He can sing all the songs live in their original keys.
If I look past the performance onstage, Freddie was quite shy and didn't like talking to the media. He gave few interviews. Adam is a wonderful spokesperson for the band, and loves to interact with media. He knows how to charm the pants off of them, and doesn't see that as a burden. He is more outgoing.
Then, you have the fact that Adam has the acting experience.
So, I happen to agree with Brian, but whether others do or not, certainly Brian should be free to express his opinion and his admiration for Adam. IMO. Adam haters gonna hate. Let 'em.

LOL Adam Lambert ditches antiperspirant deodorant makes a headline. Hope the deodorant people don't go after Adam the way the beef industry went after Oprah.

Variety_TV @variety_TV Adam Lambert on What’s Changed for Gay Artists Since His ‘American Idol’ Run dlvr.it/R6wTVk Ten years ago, Adam Lambert burst onto the music scene in a blaze of guy-liner, hairspray and sexual ambiguity as America’s most unlikely “Idol.” But while he had the rock star look down and a soaring voice that seduced the hard-to-impress Simon Cowell, Lambert lost. Or did he? While many blamed homophobia for his runner-up showing, Lambert actually helped to promote LGBTQ tolerance to middle America, which paved the way for future openly gay artists such as Troye Sivan. He took his fame and ran with it, then solidifed his industry cred in 2012 by stepping into Freddie Mercury’s shoes and touring with Queen. Now the singer wants to reestablish his identity as a solo artist with his forthcoming fourth album, “Velvet.” Says Lambert, “In terms of its sound and influences, it’s the most me.” Compare being an openly gay artist in 2019 versus 2009.It’s a totally different landscape. There is much more visibility, so it doesn’t feel like a foreign or scary concept. When I first came on the scene, [people] in the music business were supportive of me personally, but also a bit nervous about how it could work publicly. Now it’s been proven that there is a market and an audience. It’s allowing a lot more diversity to be pushed through. Do you no longer experience homophobia in the music industry? It’s gotten better, but I can’t make a blanket statement. There’s sometimes internalized homophobia that I’ve encountered from people in the industry [where] they might feel that “too gay.”What does gay pride mean to you? When I moved to L.A. at 19, it was like a whole new world opened up. At 21, I went to clubs and bars in West Hollywood, and finally I felt like I’m with my tribe. Then I learned that even within the gay community, there are lots of different subsets. So that was interesting to navigate. I always felt like I was bouncing around a lot of different circles. I think that made me who I am. Ultimately, did you feel like you fit in somewhere?I still don’t feel like I fit in. Part of my personality is to always have a little dash of outsider in me. I’m a bit of a weirdo. You’ve rocked the Oscars with Queen and made Cher cry at the Kennedy Center Honors. Would you say you’ve arrived? My idea of success has evolved. Being allowed to continue being a creative as a career — and live comfortably — is a blessing. To me, the most important thing is to find a sense of personal satisfaction. How was making “Velvet” different from your previous albums?I was involved on every song, and that’s a first for me. It was a different experience sort of executive producing this album. Confidence is part of it, and just having a clarity of direction has been really integral too. I wasn’t going through a label or management team, so there was no pressure and nobody commenting. It allowed me space and time to explore. Things You Didn’t Know About Adam LambertAGE: 37 BIRTHPLACE: Indianapolis WHEN HE GOT HIS GAY CARD: At age 15, his voice coach introduced him to the music of Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand “IDOL” LEGACY: “I tried to push the envelope. It was good TV for that reason.” MERCURY IMMERSION: He speculates that the singer’s “super-camp” manner was a rebellion against the system and adds, “It’s one I can relate to.”

Well if it's true that any publicity is good publicity then Adam's on a roll but I can't help thinking he could do without the "desperate to play Elvis" and "Brian think's he's better than Freddie" one's. I'd love to know what Brian ACTUALLY said. And Adam sure didn't say he was desperate to play Elvis lol...the headlines sure make up their own drama. I thought his comment was more tongue in cheek than anything else. And what the heck is the deodorant headline all about? Play on words...Coming In Hot? Or is this a comment Adam made in one of the interviews I missed? Man, I was out to lunch for 2 hours, and I come back to 4 new pages !!!!

Or is this a comment Adam made in one of the interviews I missed? Man, I was out to lunch for 2 hours, and I come back to 4 new pages !!!! This is the article they took the quote from. Brian was really talking about Paul vs Adam and how they can throw anything at Adam and he can do it www.guitarworld.com/artists/queens-brian-may-sounds-off-about-freddie-mercurys-guitar-skills-bohemian-rhapsody-actors-and-the-most-difficult-song-to-play-liveAdam mentioned in an interview that he'd been told his lymph nodes were congested and that wearing antiperspirant is bad for you so he'd started using natural crystal antiperspirant which doesn't actually stop you sweating apparently. I'm sure he didn't think it would become headline news lol. And yeah I got the impression the Elvis comment wasn't serious.
