Music is "big" business. All the factors we weigh and consider are not part of the view in top board rooms. It takes "big" money to place artists at the top. It has very little to do with the quality of their art. Don't be discouraged. In about six months some of the information will come out related to who,how and when
music is managed. It is related to corporate money not "art". Look to the corporate owners of record companites at the very top.Good point. I makes sense to me why it is an uphill battle for a gay artist who decides to be more than just "vanilla". I adore Adam and that will never change. Fully on board here. What's happening in six months?? What am I missing lol? Fully on board here, too....not going anywhere. Bamafan, I don't "get" Lizzo either, visually or sonically. But I'm not a general fan of women's voices, so there's that. In all honesty though, the defiant and FU attitude only goes so far with me, then I'm tired of it.

At first I was a little downhearted by the discussion of why Adam hasn't taken over the world, but the more I read and thought, I changed my mind. Like others I let go of the superstardom concept a while back with the result that I have enjoyed his music more without as much anxiety. I approach his music with the thought of 'what is Adam trying to tell me'; sometimes I think I know and agree and at others ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But I enjoy following so much as a person, that it is all worth it.
I do have a couple of thoughts on his past and current music. He has not really completely done the big voice thing since FYE. That music is great, but it is mostly music written by other people and Adam always does other people's music so well, plus it was what was expected of him post-Idol. In Trespassing, he started exploring more of what he liked but was summarily shutdown by the record label for the promotion of the album. For TOH, he in some ways threw up his hands and gave himself over to the pop masters with mixed success (Ghosttown aside).
Anyway, before this gets too long here are two of my thoughts on Velvet and one other random thought:
1) With Velvet he is finally getting to completely explore and try to re-imagine the sounds and influences from his youth - yes that means Prince, Madonna, MJ, et al with falsetto and a taste of R&B. These and not his parents rock music are his first influences, these are the songs he shared with his friends. When I heard New Eyes, I just knew that was where we were going and CIH further confirmed that. This is what I am expecting from Side A of Velvet. I like it although it does not move the earth under my feet but he needs to get it out of his system.
2) So far, Velvet for me is Adam also finally getting to let loose his sexual nature. Being gay in America has meant that for the last ten years he has had to tone back the sexy and wrap it in all kinds of metaphors about universal experience. Now, that is fine because Adam definitely has his hippie/new age side, but from my perception, Adam is also a man who loves sex and now, by god, he is going to sing about it whether it's any sex is better than no sex, or that young guy with new eyes turns me on, or watch out I am coming in hot. Even his promotional appearances are more about himself and I like that. This also, he needs to get out of his system.
I know his music will do well enough to keep him in the game, but superstardom is still a question mark. I am happy he is getting to explore things that have probably been building up inside and it is possible that being able to let go and do that is what has put him in a good place.
3) Finally (yes I know that you thought this post would never end) — a random thought about bringing "the voice" to his new music. Queen has given him the financial and artistic confidence to switch labels and produce whatever music the hell he wants but I wondered if it also mitigated his desire to bring a big voice to the other music in his life. Three or four months out of the year he sings Queen which is an overload of big voice and maybe he just needs variety ...

Thanks, LindaG23 . I enjoyed your post which helped me process my thoughts today. I could not agree more that Adam needed to get things "out of his system" and I have followed him closely enough to "get it". When I evaluate his current "standing" as an artist I always look at it from my own perception versus what the general viewing audiences may think. He is lucky to be able to experiment.
