Just got home from the concert. What a spectacle! Visually amazing! Gorgeous costumes! Very loud -- both the band and the crowd! Not the greatest sound, but we.got spoiled at the smaller venue in Vegas. Adam hit some amazing notes and the crowd roared! Now I'm going to look through the thread and look at all the close up photos. YAY!! Were you sitting with fiercelier and mszue?

Came home an hour and a half ago, and immediately started listening to the Mixlr recording while reading the concert thread, because experiencing it just once is simply not enough. "Opulent" was the word that came to my mind too, and it looks like I am not alone. They took what they learned from the previous set design, and multiplied it by 10 to create a lot of depth, with great play of lights and shadows in the digital props and environments. There was surprisingly little recycling of visual material - mainly the Queen crest and Frank during the encore, the latter a welcome sight. I hoped that they would do more medleys of shortened versions of songs, and OMG they did! They dropped the drum battle, while making the introduction of the rest of the band more entertaining! They took nearly every great song from the last 3 major tour iterations (minus Save Me and Love Kills) and stuffed them together in a different order that worked quite well. However I expect a few changes to the Tacoma show, because that's how Brian operates, and I felt there were a couple transitions that could have been better (e.g. from Bicycle Race into FBG). The only song that felt too short was Tie Your Mother Down, I was surprised when it finished -I even wondered for a second or two whether Adam forgot to sing the next verse... Moving The Show Must Go On earlier in the set made sure Adam's voice was in top shape to handle it (not that he did not handle it in the past, but I think they made a smart choice there). I LOVED the opening Innuendo, but was sad it was only instrumental. Ditto for Dead On Two Legs, one of my favorite Queen songs... But it was a good reminder that Spike can play those keys I was very impressed by Machines (Or Back To Humans) - it was pretty flawless for a first time performance. I played the original first thing after sitting back behind the computer, and then I located the live version in the Mixlr stream, and indeed I found it better. Very glad for the return of Dragon Attack! Brian's solo was visually entertaining, including both 2D cosmos on screen, and 3D planets as props hanging from the ceiling. Musically it was different enough to not be as boring as the first time around. The costumes were simply magnificent. The only non-designer piece (the flames shirt) appears a bit plain in photographs, but in reality worked very well within the context of the show. They saved on golden confetti this time around, used white paper strips instead. A bit disappointing after all the gold on stage and around it For a first show in the tour, there were very few mistakes. The NIH opening was a bit disjointed; Brian went too early into IWTBF, Adam swapped a couple of lyrics on In The Lap Of The Gods Revisited and WWRY, but in general it felt similar to the last Vancouver show which was the 7th on that tour. It helps they have been playing most of these songs for so many years now... SO. MUCH. FUN!
