You'd think after all these years I wouldn't still be amazed by Adam's vocals....but to think how he sings full out and then some for about 2 hours and then adds in the riffing as a cherry on top where most wouldn't have that extra to give....it still amazes me. And he can do that 3 or 4 times a week. I know he's been singing for 30 years etc....but the strength of his vocal chords is just unbelievable. I can sing along to a song on the radio and at the end my throat is tired and my chords feel strained....that's one reason I'm no singer. I wonder if he was born with "different" vocal chords than most folks and then he developed them and nurtured them over the years...like how much was already there to start with. Are we born with various levels of developed or potential to develop vocal chords? Even the best world class athletes don't operate at Adam levels consistently for decades w/o damage or injury, etc. The poor sleep habits and alcohol and weed, etc. thru the years don't appear to have hampered him. It must be all that water he drinks....lol. Guess a GFG just can't be completely understood or explained. From an anatomical and technical perspective, it's not about vocal cord strength. They are not muscles, but complex membranes. Genetics determine the thickness and length of the cords, determining the pitch range, so, some of Adam's unique quality is inherent. But, the quality of the tone and sound is more determined by the anatomy of the vocal tract and skull, plus the technique used. Yeah, more detail than you need or want. As for Adam's ability to sing as he does for 2 hours in concerts multiple times a week without damaging his cords, that is mainly because of the technical mastery developed with years of excellent coaching and practice, coupled with good vocal care. The strength factors in with the strength of the muscles that control breath support and placement of the tone/resonance in the vocal tract (throat, mouth, tongue, sinuses). Have you ever water skied? When you use the proper technique you can skim across the surface of the water with no drag and no strain. But if you don't use good technique, your skis plow thru the water and sometimes dig in rather than skimming the surface. If you don't have enough speed from the tow boat (proper breath control) you can't attain and maintain that "effortless" skimming. If you use proper technique but you are out of shape/practice, the muscles you are using fatigue after a time and you cannot maintain control of your position. Yes, Adam was born with excellent skis with a great edge. His coaches taught him the most effective way to attain and maintain the right position in the water for maximum efficiency. Thru coaching and practice, he has also learned various difficult tricks on skis. When not skiing, he makes sure to maintain his skis to keep the proper edge and smooth surface. If Adam does not keep the focus on proper techniques while singing, if he gets sloppy or pushes and uses force to hit notes, if he doesn't listen to his body to make sure it is in great shape for singing, he can do damage to those billion dollar vocal cords. Fortunately, he seems to know this and knows how far he can go with his voice, what his limits are, and what the consequences are if he ignores or sloughs off on his training and technique. All of the above does not take away from how remarkable it is that he sings so well, so long, and so often. In fact, for me, it enhances it, knowing it is not a natural, god-given voice that miraculously performs without damage, but a smart, educated, trained, and practiced performer who works constantly to perfect his craft.

Tacoma HQ Full Concert AudioHere is a link to download my high quality full Tacoma concert mp3 file. I will be posting files split by song in both mp3 and flac formats in a day or two, hopefully. tinyurl.com/y6joek7v Dancy, Thanks so much for the download. You are a gem! I am especially enjoying Machines, and your version is the best I've heard. Will have to have it on repeat a bit when you split up the songs... I went back to listen to the original Queen version. Those guys were definitely ahead of their time. Saw this comment: Emmanuel Mensah

Imagine if there was a video for this song I guess this may have to do - which isn't bad!

Cassie,
I wish that Adam would somehow see your comments. He knows everything you've written, but am sure he loves to know that others - pros like yourself - recognize it, too.
One of the reasons I'm enjoying Dancy's recording so much is that, without all the lights, bells and whistles of the SHOW, I can concentrate on the miracle of Adam's voice.

Thank goodness Adam has the smarts to consistently do what needs to be done, and we are all blessed because of it.

Thanks for weighing in cassie....I had hoped you would And Yes, I tried water skiing a couple of times and all I accomplished was to let the boat pull my arms forward until I was flat on my stomach. Zero technique. Nobody told me you need to focus on your abdominal muscles and the muscles/strength in your legs. lol

OLY ARTSThe Show Must Go On: Queen, Others Headline at Tacoma Dome This SummerFor music fans who started collecting albums before the arrival of Spotify, Tacoma Dome has scheduled an epic run of bucket-list concert acts. Carrie Underwood appeared there May 24, followed by New Kids on the Block June 1, Jeff Lynne’s ELO June 28, Pentatonix July 3 and Khalid July 7.
The highlight thus far, however, was the return of legendary rock band Queen July 12. (After a household fall, an injured Ozzy Osbourne rescheduled his show to July 11, 2020.)
Lead singer Freddie Mercury died November 24, 1991, of course, but guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor are still heavily featured in Queen’s performance. They recruited American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert to take the mic eight years ago. While Lambert freely admits Freddie Mercury is irreplaceable, even the wariest critic must acknowledge Lambert has every note and decibel of Mercury’s vast vocal chops. Not for nothing, but Taylor himself described Lambert as having “the best range I’ve ever heard.”
