Wow! Adam just nailed GTPWTW! He just gets into a character and owns it. Great comic nuance and personality. That song shows off everything about him. Big voice! Personality! Talent that oozes out of every pore. Lino made a fantastic discovery in Adam. Glad the song is getting some real attention!

4. QUEEN + ADAM LAMBERT Who would have thought, when Queen singer Freddy Mercury died in 1991 that the band could – or would – continue in any form? But Lambert’s ability to capture Mercury’s bombast, and some semblance of his vocals, has given new life to Queen. The band’s guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor first paired with the “American Idol” runner-up on that show in 2009, and now are on their third world tour. No, it’s not Mercury. But at this point, it’s as close to Queen as you’ll get. 8 p.m. Aug. 3, Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St., Philadelphia. Sold out, but resale tickets available. John MOser (the writer of this blurb) really doesn't like Adam, does he? I recall his previous reviews of Adam's solo concerts. Not good. But here's what gripes me. Lambert "captures.. some semblance of (mercury's) vocals". One may LIKE Freddie's vocal style better than Adam's, but ask any trained singer and they will tell you Adam outsings Freddie live, period. And Brian May has basically said that Adam can do everything Freddie could do, and more.l "Some semblance" implies that Adam's vocals do not measure up to Freddie's. By what possible criteria except that dead rock icons get 100 extra points in the rating system? Or did Moser mean that Adam sound somewhat resembles Freddie's? Cuz it doesn't. Not at all. Not in range, tone, resonance, clarity, or style. He probably could if he wanted to; Adam is a good mimic. But he, Brian, and Roger expressly do NOT want him to imitate Freddie. "Close to Queen as you'll get"???? Is this what they refer to as "damning with faint praise"? IMHO, the show, the staging, the technical aspects and the vocals exceed the Queen of 30+ years ago. They have outdone themselves. I so wish SOMEONE would have the guts to say that in the media. (Not to mention that if Freddie were still alive HE would not be able to measure up to his past performances at 73 years old. So, from that perspective Adam is better.)There I said it!

cassie, you said it perfectly, of course, but most people are afraid to say it. Brian and Roger have come awfully close with their "He can do everything Freddie did and more." In a way, as members of Queen, they are "allowed" to say it. Adam said once in an old interview that's "it's not about the voice." Someone had asked him about successful singers and how they make it to the top. Adam is right. A good singer doesn't have to be the best technical singer. Top 40 shows us that all the time.
Adam is that rare combination of stellar technical vocals, personality. looks, stage presence, etc. Freddie invented his own persona. No one can touch it. No one is Freddie. But as far as delivering Freddie's goods, no one has done it like Adam. Many reviewers do give Adam ample praise.
Apparently, Adam is not John Moser's cup of tea and there is nothing that is going to change his mind. So he can just wallow in his faint praise if it makes him feel good.

"It keeps me in Saint-Laurent" . Adam said he lost his voice after the day he recorded - not surprising given what he put into it. Amazing how he can transpose his vocal acrobatics to any genre. That is what I thought as well after hearing his voice promo with Lino and then the full song — it is no wonder he lost his voice after a full day of that. Even though I have been following Adam for years and am aware of his vocal prowess, after a while I become just a little blasé about his singing, internally perhaps fitting him in with other good vocal performers, and then BAM! he puts out something like this and I am reminded of just how very very brilliant he is. This realization/reminder is both wonderful and just a little hard. How is he not all over the place, huh!?! Well, I will go to the movie just to hear this song on the big screen and equally immersive speaker system. Can't wait.

Oh good, Cassie, I guess you read that comment the same way I did...I was wondering if I was being too critical and too much of an Adam fan lol.
Listen, I've just come to the conclusion that you have to feel sorry for some of these people...their beloved has died and is never, never coming back and they've come to the conclusion that nothing and no one else will ever do. They have decided that they will just live with the memories, but they're angry and bitter that the rest of the world is carrying on and still having fun (without them). Sad.
As to Emperor Maximum, I purposely went to bed as soon as I saw the song was out, and avoided listening because otherwise the Emperor would have been in my head all night lol. I can't listen to music just before I go to bed. That being said, I listened to it this morning and I love it! Omg, that man is so talented. I swear he's a schizophrenic singer, and has about a million different voices living inside of him. His storytelling in his songs is off the charts...I could picture Maximum strutting around and smirking while he was singing this.
Ok, off to buy the song...and to listen some more. Plus I need to catch up on some of the tour videos while I drink my coffee...hopelessly behind. Too much happening lately.
Thanks for all the videos, and the gorgeous pics (have to go back to look at Skaschep's pics in yesterday's thread). I haven't downloaded new pics in at least a day lol.

Just a quick pit stop, after hearing the new song from Playmobil The Movie. SPECTACULAR . It reminded me somewhat of that performance from Hair simply because of how he changed the tone and colour of his voice, but I would venture to say that this performance is even more difficult and sublime. He goes all over the place, from whisper to big belting, through ten different kinds of laughter-singing, all those little characterization add-ons that influence each and every word. I mean, wow, nobody could sing this song like he did, not even some famous Broadway stars... It kind of makes me wish he were more in theatre, even though I understand he wants to be more of a pop singer, but oh, that voice is made for this kind of singing, with thousand variations and the level of difficulty through the roof. His technique is masterful, his ability to interpret and inhabit a character simply outstanding - only through the voice. Every single animation movie after this needs to offer Adam Lambert a singing role, unless they're tone deaf, that's all. :D

I really LOVE "Give the people what they want", and the way how Adam interprets the song is simply brilliant! He brings over the character of the evil Emperor Maximus perfectly in his performance!!! Such an extraordinary song, that allows Adam to show off his whole vocal range and also his humorous side again!!!

I wonder if Adam had to practice the song? Or if there even is any way to practice something like that? Like Toramenor stated, there is so much happening in a little over 2 minutes, it seems to me that it would be difficult to replicate. Somebody should ask Lino (or maybe already have and I missed it).
Forgot to say earlier (in my very lengthy post lol) that I really enjoyed reading that interview, especially all the little extras (luggage, hair etc). Very enjoyable read...
