Tho I have to admit the Freddie speech bothers me, more than it does others, so I rarely listen to it. That I do cringe on as I don't see that it helps him much or adds to the enjoyment of the show. Thankfully, he did tone it down for my show. However, it was a great tour so no real complaints. I wouldn't miss it if he would just drop it, but... Have you ever experienced the so-called Impostor Syndrome? It is a very real feeling of being inadequate and in the wrong place, and nobody but you knows that, but you feel like any moment now people will realize you are a fraud. It seems to be normal for people who excel in their field. I truly believe Adam Lambert is the best damn singer alive. He might be in the top ten of best singers ever, alive or dead. But if you would try to tell him that, he would totally reject the idea. A bunch of peers that know more about singing than me have stated it. In fact, both Brian May and Roger Taylor have pretty much said it outright ("I think he is the best singer around. I don't know anybody that can out sing Adam Lambert." - Roger Taylor). Even Marc Martel of all people gave an interview stating it. Adam feels the need to be humble and make sure people don't think he is full of himself because he is in Freddie's shoes, or that he is feeling entitled to be up there on the stage with rock'n'roll legends, continuing the legacy of a dead legend. For anyone who is there for Adam, it makes no difference during the show, in fact you can hear the voices of people like you and me telling him "You are Adam F***ing Lambert!" during the speech. But for the few people who had reservations before the show (there are always a few, and you can read Tweets from them after the show admitting how wrong they were), the contrast of the humility and the quality of the performance leads to a better final impression. It is kind of like "under-promise and over-deliver" that always beats "over-promise", even if the delivered product is the same. I like the "torch" version of the speech better, too... I found it very suspicious that he changed it around the time fans started complaining about the "pink elephant" on this Forum (and I guess in other media like Twitter). I wonder if the fanbase's opinion informed that change.Fans were also tweeting (some to him) about it too and saying it was not needed. And some in the press used it as an opportunity to say no you ain't Freddie so sit down. Which was kind of weird because who actually thought he thought he was Freddie? But he would always return to the "pink elephant" and "god" even after a break from it, so I don't know. But the most dismissive reviews for him and Brian and Roger seemed to go with that OTT version of the speech. Whatever the reason, I hope he has it out of his system now, lol. It has been 8 years for people to come to terms with Adam and not Freddie. Sure some will hold on to the resentment but most came out to enjoy a night of rock and roll.

Nine years ago yesterday, Adam had a GNT show in Staten Island. This video was twitted by Boy George IIRC. I'll never be tired of Fever, and he always had such fun performing it, it was infectious. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fH7p0AwKyQ
