Promised reading material So this first article from Rolling Stone discusses Payola and what used to happen, the lawsuits, and what they think still happens. It's not very good at showing what is legal. Do check the small line that talks about iHeart and how they supposedly stay away from payola. Makes me think that behind the scenes vid of the SuperPower from them (you have to watch the official long version to see the ending credits) is a big deal. Here's the article - www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/radio-stations-hit-pay-for-play-867825/

Reading material 2 So you can't buy your way onto radio, or onto Spotify playlists, what's an international artiest to do? This next article on Forbes talks about how certain parts of the world stream like crazy and since they stream like crazy the streaming platforms actually pay less per stream. So some artists look at the dollars and don't think those areas are a good market to spend any advertising in because they may get lots of stream but no money back. However if the computer models just see streams as streams and the more streams the better then can those markets flip a song into a runaway freight train? Interestingly for Adam those markets tend to be South East Asia, Eastern Europe, and Mexico. Compare itunes charts #s to these areas the next time skaschep posts the list. When I looked at yesterdays list SuperPower wasn't in the SE Asia and E Europe markets yet but Ghost Town still has some legs there. When it comes to Mexico they really seemed to like the Feel Something video (I think that's what I remember skaschep posting). For a power anthem Adam's not saying much, he's actually being a little too generic for me, but am I the only one who thought latinos are one of the groups that really needs and empowerment anthem right now? Or that Adam could almost pass as a very tall latino in the SuperPower vid? It was all probably very unintentional. So do you think Adam's team is looking at this emerging market data? Will they spend some money in those markets?
