Someone posted an article a while back about major problems in the physical distribution pipeline for albums. All I could find was a link to a billboard business article which I can't see because I don't have a business account. www.billboard.com/articles/business/8520211/indie-retailers-breakdown-cds-vinyl-fulfillment-record-storesBut the upshot was that there is a bottle neck in physical distribution as well as major problems with the ONE company managing pretty much ALL the labels distribution. This is affecting product making it to the stores so it is likely that Adam had no control over the delay in physical CD's being available.

Interesting, isn't it? Some records just seem to hit the sweet spot and after that no wrong can be done. And I think it helps when their labels don't allow them to get lost in the pop world even tho they still get radio play on those charts. But they get them entered in genres where they are not dominated by the the Mendes and Camilla's and Ariana's and Ed's and Taylor's of the world. I really wish I had more of a clue how this all works, in order to even state a qualified opinion. However, I believe that it is important for an artist to form a musical identify early on so that the label can invest in a straightforward strategy. It is my perception that Adam never much aspired to release rock or alternative music, and I remember from those Idol days that he wanted to make a "modern pop record", even though the judges especially Randy kept suggesting a rock album. Let's not forget that Adam auditioned to MJ's "Rock with You" before he impressed the judges with "Bohemian Rhapsody". After Idol, and "despite" some much raved about rock covers and the finale with Queen and Kiss, Adam persisted toward pop and released FYE as his first single... When WWFM became hugely successful he could have possibly switched lanes a bit toward pop/rock but as we know from the singles that followed, that did not happen. I am not complaining here. Adam likes to make pop music, but that has put him up against the usual suspects in the pop world. Now we finally have "Velvet", which to me is a huge step toward musical identity and cohesiveness in sound, yet every song is unique. For me his very best work yet. Adam says that his collaboration with Queen has influenced "Velvet" in some ways, so I hope that some "Queenies" have fallen in love with Adam enough to be open to a slightly different sound from him.

So what’s everyone fav from Velvet so far? Mines Stranger you are. Just so different. The hook gets stuck in my head. I wouldn’t mind it as a radio single. I still tend to listen to the whole EP without skipping songs, but besides "Superpower" I do like "Loverboy" and sexy, sultry and bluesy "Ready to Run".

So what’s everyone fav from Velvet so far? Mines Stranger you are. Just so different. The hook gets stuck in my head. I wouldn’t mind it as a radio single. It keeps changing. I still think that SP was the perfect choice for the lead single and I get why Closer to You seems to be a favorite for the next one, but I currently find myself repeating Ready to Run more often than the others... Stranger You Are comes close, though. And by tomorrow I might prefer Overglow again...
