Since my daughter was born slightly over 4 years ago, I have been very careful not to indoctrinate her. I never played Adam to her unless she asked me to. I always played Queen songs in original and tried to keep QAL in the background to ensure she learned the originals first (because once you hear Adam's versions of a song, there might be no going back).
However, she has been aware of Adam's existence, and daddy's obsession with him, at least through the QAL T-shirt I wore when I went to the Vancouver show this year. And then one day the car music player was on shuffle, and it hit an obscure piece from the almost-bastard-album Take One, and ... she loved the voice and wanted more. So she got to hear more, see more, watched with the family the Global Citizens QAL performance on live TV, and ended up falling deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole.
Today we took a 40 minutes drive to the next city for family lunch and shopping, and she insisted on listening to nothing but Adam Lambert. When I switched to the Vancouver Rock radio station (which played Rush and then Foreigner at that moment), she asked me to go back to playing Adam. She wanted the "hanging from the chandelier" song (Marry The Night from GLEE) several times, and SQUEALED when Overglow from Velvet Side A came up... I don't think she has heard Lady GaGa do Marry The Night, but I am afraid she won't enjoy it now She also asked for a replay of Ghost Town which she heard for the first time today, and not only because its title sounds like a Halloween song...
I almost feel bad because I tend to listen to a healthy mix of genres, and now my 4-years old girl is a bigger fan than me. I am sure my wife thinks it is my fault, but she does not say so, and I can assure you it is all Adam's voice's fault!
Hurrah for the next generation!
