Hello from Live in the Vineyard!
Just returned early from the performances at the Uptown Theatre tonight. I can hardly hold my head up! And I MUST be ready for tomorrow night and Adam!
What a trip. What a life. This 3-day event is so over-the-top amazing I can hardly believe I'm here. I had to use many, many airline miles for this ticket to Paradise, but tonight as I boarded the limo bus for the short trip from hotel to theatre, I was among dozens of prize winners, so I felt like a lucky one. One winner was from a radio show in Nashville; another drove from his home an hour away in Sacramento. Another entered one time on Facebook, and then went to her kid's football game, to watch him in the marching band. She was amazed when she returned home to the news that she'd be coming to the Napa Valley.
I've made no secret of the reason why I'm here. Many people are familiar with Adam - 'the guy from American Idol' or 'The guy who fills in for Freddie Mercury' . . . but surprisingly few REALLY know who Adam is, and the trajectory of his career and fame. I can't waste my time with the Freddie/Adam thing; a woman began to tell me how Adam fell short in her estimation when she saw him in Philadelphia . . . "He just didn't sound enough like Freddie" . . . I give up! I can only hope that tomorrow night I'll be able to leave my seat in the 12th row and approach the stage when AFL performs. There is no way I'll be able to sit! Performers for Saturday are Adam, Walk Off the Earth, Delta Rae, Natasha Bedingfield, and Kelsey Ballerina. I've been told Adam will close the show; but my 'source' isn't quite reliable.
There is no smoke in the air; and, unlike last nite when temps were in the 40s by 9PM, it's a very clear but mild evening. A little humidity in the air, too! Trailers are set up outside the theatre for the performers.
My DH was here with me today, but left for home - yes, we still have a home! - before dark. Power has returned and even tho there are still roadblocks they let us through. A dear friend I met at Costa Mesa in July, 2010, will fly to Sacramento tomorrow morning; a LITV limo will pick her up and bring her to Napa (!) and the party will be on! Someday I'll be able to make some sense of the topsy-turvy of life circumstances these past two years. One week ago we were in another firestorm. Tomorrow I'll see Adam perform. And I have a new house I had to flee before the first memories were made.
I've spent one night there since the fire. It was very late and I woke up, and watched the biggest, fattest raccoon I've ever seen explore the pumpkin on our new patio. He must be ready for Thanksgiving. So am I. So much to be thankful for. Adam, and his brave vision for his music and artistry; Adamtopia, through it all.
I'll try to remember every detail of tomorrow! And let you know!
Thank you all so much for your thoughts, prayers, and good wishes sent to me from our Universe. They have helped me more than I can say. It feels so good . . . having a computer here with a connection I can trust; breathing clean air from a blue sky; having a new home and new beginning; and a fat raccoon to remind me that this good world belongs to us all.
