Just because there is NOTHING GOING ON, right now, as we all eagerly await news of the concert, this just appeared on my Google Alert. An article on the re-release of the 1957 recording of Brigadoon. Seems strange to actually cover that in a news release, but even stranger is this line from the review. "Frank Porretta's operatic tenor is featured in the elegant "Come to Me, Bend to Me," a version you can compare with Adam Lambert's over the top take on the tune ." What????? Adam performed in Brigadoon in Texas back in 2004, for Theatre Under the Stars. His "over the top" performance is only on YouTube, never released or anything. I would think that only Adam fans would even be aware of it. Yet, he is mentioned in a Seattle review. That cracks me up. The power of Adam's name in any story. But, the good thing is that some readers may read it and say, "Adam Lambert sang in Brigadoon? I want to hear that." New converts? Read more: www.seattlepi.com/default/article/Music-Review-Brigadoon-Studio-Cast-Recording-1399645.php#ixzz1Ncmjekel" I'm confused tho, why would Adam's version be considered over the top? The writer says it like it's a bad thing, unlike the "elegant" version he's writing about? LOL so random, anyway.

The writer says it like it's a bad thing, unlike the "elegant" version he's writing about? LOL so random, anyway. I have NO IDEA. So, I found the recording the reviewer was talking about. It is much faster, much less tender and heartfelt, with a heavier tenor sound. Adam just floats his version, taking all the time in the world. The only thing I can think of is that Adam absolutely milks that high sustained note. It is clearly a virtuoso moment. He is showing off, just cuz he can (and cuz it works in the context of the song.) That sustain is designed to have people gasping and shaking their heads in wonder. Maybe OTT means showing off? Here is the 1957 version. Which do you prefer?
