mszue, what a nice post! I had some nostalgic thoughts, similar to yours, this past weekend. In the midst of these tragic times the memory of All the excitement of the “early” years is bittersweet. But on the bright side I find the fact this site is still here and relatively active to be a miracle! Idk how many of all those tens of Adam sites that have sprung After AI are still around, I doubt very many. It is sad to think of how many posters are no longer here, but we have a great contingency of new fans so all is good! Obviously, Q3 and all the mods are doing something right here, perhaps it’s the “glittery attitude” (Of which I personally am not a proponent , lol). But the fact is - it works! And I sure hope those non-Adam related sub forums get resurrected!

The Dark Side has been completely deleted .... dead and gone from view. But out of that site came the slightly lighter but still really interesting discussion thread called the Moon Garden. Many of the people who contributed to that thread are not seen around Adamtopia any more...among them, one I really miss here, a very literate and thoughtful fan by the name of Juniemoon. The Moongarden only really existed for about a year...even sidelined as it was there was still a level of censorship and eventually, Junie set up a separate private fb group...which also disbanded after a year or so. Not wanting to flog any dead horses or any such thing. Many...even most...of the really early posters have left Atop and some, perhaps, the fandom. Many primarily reside on twitter now and/or pop in here when something really momentous happens. This is a natural evolution of any group so it is not surprising that the tenor of the place has changed dramatically. Atop has been maintained as a place of glitter and rarely is anything 'serious' really tolerated. I do thank you, Q3, for being ok with some outside of the glitter stuff on the forum on Mondays. Much of this is because of Adam's new-found political activism. If any of you wish to see what some of the Moongarden discussions were like, I invite you to go back and take a trip down memory lane...or the past . It is very interesting! You may also want to take a look at After Hours. That is a much shorter forum, lasting over a longer time...and for those of a strong poetic and literary bent. I can't talk to so much of that as I was not a part of most of those discussions...that I remember. They are very interesting though. I personally would love to see a slight rejuvenation of the Moon Garden...if there are people interesting in delving below the surface in a meaningful way. I truly miss those days....there was an intellectual stimulation in the talk that made me head directly here every morning. It was a 'start at the first page' kind of thread...the main thread is a 'start at the latest page' kind of thread. If that makes sense..... Re where to start in the MoonGarden should there be any interest...anywhere you wish.. In that incredible way coincidences always surprises us, but not really I have been thinking about the After Hours thread for weeks now, wanting to reread the whole thing. (I wasn't active on Adamtopia during the MoonGarden thread, but I was fairly active on After Hours up until the thread kinda died down.) I would welcome a resurrection of those threads or opening up a new one, if enough people wanted to engage in such conversations, etc. Thanks for your post, it's finally given me the kick-in-the-butt to go re-read After Hours.

When Adam appeared on Idol, they were not allowed to actually give interviews. But anyone claiming they did not know Adam was gay were not really paying attention. It was discussed everywhere. And yes he did acknowledge that it was him in those kissing photos. You can't be out since you were 18 (which was the case with Adam) and then suddenly try to go back in the closet. But you also should not be required to make your sexuality more of the conversation instead of letting your talent take center stage. Adam did that just like Kelly, Carrie, and Jhud and they are all rewarded for their standout talent and are still going strong. And Adam has always been "safe" and there was nothing unsafe or predatory about him except in the minds of idiots. They just chose to encourage fans not to vote for him because of his sexuality. And yes they knew he was gay even without an announcement of Hey I'm gay. But he came out on the other end even with efforts to end his career before it started.
As for Adam's style and persona, there is nothing wrong with maturing. Most artists gay or straight will do that unless they want to try to be 20 year old pop artists when they are 40 or 50. I was glad when GAGA ditched the dancers and became more serious. But I see she is back to it. I guess she was feeling left out with more attention going to Camilla and Ariana. But if you are not getting major radio play what is the point in sticking with something that is not working for you? It is a kids game now even if Janet Jackson is doing at 50, with all her dancers, what she did when she was 20. Adam has a tremendous talent and has been able to find platforms that have worked out well for him. I don't think many are worrying about nail polish as a focus or statement at this stage of his career. If he wants to wear it he does. As for makeup, some just think he is more handsome without hiding behind so MUCH of it. Adam even said that he would hide behind it early in his career. It has nothing to do with his sexuality or fans trying to pretend he is not gay. That is just silly. Being gay has nothing to do with how much makeup you wear. If that is more important to some fans than his talent, that is their choice. Alice Cooper and Kiss are not gay and they look so dated with all that getup on this late in life, imo. But what else do they have? And if Adam decides he wants his talent to be the main focus then fans should respect that and not try to keep it all about how he started out. Besides, he is the Queen frontman and he does not look toned down to me. And he has the fans on their feet rocking and singing without a dancer in sight. That is all Adam. So if he wants his solo work to be more mature and move it forward by showcasing HIS talent more then good for him. His concerts this era have been glorious. He looks stylish, sexy, handsome with fantastic vocal and smooth moves and no gimmicks needed. Yes he is more mature and his work shows that. And he seemed very happy and excited about giving us more of him. No reason for him to become stale and same note. He is indie now so no one can claim it was forced on him. It was his choice and I think it was a great one. There is no reason why we can't grow with him as he moves into a new stage of his career. The support will be there and he is still gay. We wouldn't have it any other way.
