Happy 4th of July! Weird times! We are half way through 2020 and it is reminding me of that curse that says "May you live in interesting times." A few weeks ago, we were talking about a better phrase for Defund the Police. I saw one in my newspaper recently that was Re-think the Police. It was in an article about the obvious need for police for violent and property crimes, but their role in mental health matters should be reviewed. I really like "Rethink Policing" - first it makes it about what situations they respond to and behaviour rather than making it personal and about $$. I worked on something similar many years ago when a local org was trying to get an ageing coal-fired power station mothballed. Their slogan was "shutdown Hazlewood" which only served to open up discussions about jobs and power supply questions. Changing the slogan to "Replace Hazlewood" made the discussion about how and the benefits. It also forced the naysayers to defend why keeping one of the world's worst polluting power stations was a good idea - they couldn't. The power station has since been closed.

No wonder advertising companies get paid big bucks! And congratulations that your activism got something accomplished that is good for the environment. Activism is definitely not easy!
