I do applaud and support Adam's efforts and I believe them too. Just wish the leaders (Not Adam) would come up with a more genuine slogan than Defund Police. There must be some smart minds out there who can do that. Yesterday I mentioned an article I read that used the word, Re-think the Police. I immediately thought that sounded like a better phrase.

That sounds like a good one. I live in a state where, in the last few elections, we had many moderate Democrats in congress and local elections, pick off Republicans and take control of the state legislature for the first time in a longgggg time. Got rid of many of those Tea Party guys. One who won was a transgender woman and none of them would have been able to win as Bernie Sanders of AOC type candidates here. Same for our Governor. With their wins, Medicaid was given to those who had been shut out for no logical reason and some pretty good LGBT legislation got thru. Did they speak all the language of the more progressives? Nope. But they won their primary and went on to win and make a big difference. Re-think the Police would work a lot better in my neck of the woods, lol. We need everyone or as many as we can get. Sticking to a slogan that may turn off people we need when you can come up with something better seems to defeat the purpose. If we get HeWhoCannot amed again, no on is going to care about a BLM slogan (it is their chosen slogan and not Adam's) that misrepresents the meaning and goals you are trying to reach. It achieves nothing other than showing how radical the slogan is but many of us support the concept if not the wording.

For countless reasons, 2020 will be a pivotal year in American history. Right up there with 1776 and 1941 and 1968, among others. We will end this year a whole different nation than we were last January in so many of ways. There is no more idling in place, no more putting action on the shelf. If we're lucky, we will have leadership that is interested in every American. I hope we'll be successful at turning this ugly page. I went for a night walk the other day, watched the full moon, and sent positive thoughts out into the universe.

Joe Biden is running to unseat Donald HeWhoCannot amed. He does not support Defund Police but supports change to the structure and funding. I hope we can help him and not make things harder as most agree with his position. A slogan can sound good and radical but if you don't win, and get that man out of the white house, what have you even gained? If we keep spending time trying to define what it really represents, you are giving HeWhoCannot amed an out and wasting valuable time. And some seem to actually think it means getting rid of all police. There is no reason why they can't come up with a term that gets the support of more people. Everyone is not in California. You can't win by just carrying California or the more liberal states. I don't want to get rid of all the police. Don't want the George Zimmermans of the world playing cop in my neighborhood. Don't want these nuts with their big guns strutting around playing Rambo. They are not going to defund the police so can we get behind something that can be accomplished and stop with feel good distractions? Trying to lose moderates and independents, who are on board with BLM, is not a great strategy, especially over a slogan that misrepresent what the message and cause is really about, imo. Do we want to win the white house and the senate or just make a bold statement and make Democrats have to defend a slogan most of them are not buying? We need to keep focus on what we are trying to achieve. If HeWhoCannot amed gets in again, defunding the police will be the least of our worries. Even if it were accomplished, and it won't be, he will find a way to give them more if anyone has been paying attention. His current attacks on the LGBT, minorities, women, health and science will be more out of control than they are now. I do applaud and support Adam's efforts and I believe them too. Just wish the leaders (Not Adam) would come up with a more genuine slogan than Defund Police. There must be some smart minds out there who can do that. I think that Biden is taking a smart and reasonable and trustworthy approach that doesn't alienate moderates. I fully support him for the sake of this country. However, when it comes to grassroots and civil rights movements I find it important to be more explicit in order to be heard. It has worked in Minneapolis already. I think hardly anybody wants to support anarchy and live in a country that doesn't have law enforcement, but we do need to "divest" aka relocate funds toward programs that tackle the roots of many problems. There's no "one size fits all" as different cities have different police budgets and needs to begin with, but we need a serious overhaul and stop putting bandaids on problems. It is time. "Defund the police" sounds radical and it rattles people, which I think is needed to start addressing a serious problem, and I fully support Adam on his message. I think we can agree to disagree on this one, and in the end we likely want the same results anyways. My DH and I keep discussing this on the daily and we reached the same conclusion.
