Queen + Adam Lambert - I Was Born To Love You (Summer Sonic, Tokyo, 2014)
Premiered Sep 24, 2020
This Queen + Adam Lambert version of ‘I Was Born To Love You’ made its live debut in the band’s show set for their first Asia tour in August 2014: a trek which saw them play Seoul, Korea and two massive outdoor festival shows in the Japanese cities of Osaka and Tokyo. The performance is taken from their headlining appearance on Sunday 17th August 2014 at Tokyo’s Marine Stadium - the main stage of Japan’s largest rock festival, Summer Sonic. It was the first time they had ever played this arrangement of the song live together. Prior to this, Queen had only rarely included this track in a live set, and only as an abridged acoustic version.

I love this performance and I am amazed by how broad the positive acceptance of it has been. It proves to me that Adam and Freddie can now co-exist and be appreciated.
The brief history of this song
"I Was Born to Love You" is a 1985 song by Freddie Mercury, and was released as a single and on the Mr. Bad Guy album. It is definitely a "Freddie Mercury" song and definitely a disco song.
After Freddie died, Queen re-worked this song for their album Made in Heaven in 1995, by having the other members play their instrumental parts over the original track, transforming the song from a disco song to a rock song. The Queen version from the Made in Heaven album also includes samples of Mercury's ad-lib vocals taken from "A Kind of Magic" and from "Living on My Own".
Many Freddie fans hated the Queen rock-arrangement.
The first live performance of the song was on the Q+PR 2005 tour of Japan -- Brian May and Roger Taylor performed the song acoustically. It was a compromise for Japan where the song was a hit and a fan favorite.
The entire band performed IWBTLY in the Queen + Adam Lambert in South Korea and Japan concert. Adam sang the lead vocals.
In case, you are not familiar with it, here is the remastered original version.
